Thread: Droids...droids are good
What if the ability to use a droid was based upon your general class level. Lower end combat droids would be available to novice level characters and as you go up in your profession to gain the ability to use stronger droids. It wouldn't matter what class you are in (dancer, marksman, pistoleer, medic). I'm thinking the DE would automatically be able to use any droid they make. So in general once you reach mastery of an elite profession you would then have access to the best combat droids in the game. Now i'm not sure if this should stack. Might be best if it were based on you highest profession.
One of the bonuses of this idea is that it would create a fairly steady market for droids. People would be constantly upgrading so droids would continue to sell. With new and low level players the used droid market could be huge as well.
The biggest bonus of this is i could drop all of that blasted CH and use the skill points for something i really like.
If the idea of giving the DE some kind of combat edge comes up perhaps they should get some kinda of extra commands/bonus to their droids. Kinda like the the way high level CH can inpire their pets but with droids.
Just tossing these out...someone may have already suggested them but i haven't read the forums in awhile.

Yep, that's what some folks are suggesting... a 4-step cert system based on profession standing.
1) Novice (everybody)
2) Master
3) Elite Novice
4) Elite Master
It seems the simplest way to handle certs for general-sales combat droids.
Better yet, make the CDEF weapon that comes with probots standard for droids, but allow the owner of the droid to install new weapons. The catch? You can only add a weapon to a droid that you have a cert for. And the droid uses the weapon at a reduced effectiveness, tied to the skill the owner has. If you are a Master pistoleer, droid does 75% of the damage the owner does with any pistol equiped. While a novice marksman with some pistol skills can maybe put a scout blaster in a droid which will only do 50% of the damage the owner does. And have a sliding scale from 50-75% damage a droid can do with a weapon depending on owners skill.
This includes Melee classes, so there can be Vibro blade or Polearm, or even axe wielding droids as well.
More importantly, once a weapon has been added to a droid, it can not be replaced. If the owner gets a cert for a new weapon, and wants a droid with that weapon, he will have to buy a new droid, thus alleviating the problem of 0 repeat business for droids.
And if a person tries to use a droid that has a weapon he does not have a cert for, he will get a message that he is not certified to use that droid, and it will function at a reduced level, say 10% of the damage of a person who does have a cert for the weapon the droid is equipped with.
I believe this is a simple yet effective way to draw more business towards droids and away from CHs, as well as providing DEs with some repeat business.
