Thread: Droid Factory! Cool Ideal!
Here is my schematic Ideal.
Processing Center - 4 Identical Droid Compartments
Input Hopper - 2 identical Item Storage Compartments
Output Hopper - 2 Identical Item Storage Compartments
Manufacturing Cavity – 5 Identical Manipulator Arms
Manufacturing Core – 2 Identical Manufacturing Mechanisms (from architect)
Outer Case – 450 Steel
So let’s look at the advantages of having this.
- Do not need power.
- Do not need to pay maintenance
- It does not take up a lot.
- Duels as a Crafting Station
- Follows you around!
- It has a very small input hopper /output hopper. (2 times the storage level module)
- Will only manufacture items while out.
- It will be twice as slow as a normal factory (maybe).
- You can only have one in your data pad. (1 Manufacture Droid, Or possibly you get +1 Manufacturing Droid at a master artisan, or like weapon smith and doctor, and combat medic, each crafting profession at master gets to have a additional manufacturing droid)
Questions:
- Should only a master be able to use a Manufacturing droid?
- Should we require them to use more droid batteries?
- How much slower should they manufacture items?
The reason we want disadvantages on the droid facotory is so that we do not banish the archtects factoires from ever being used again. So we need to balance the ideal out so that both are usefull and both will be used. I think I have it balanced out prety well. The only thing i'm realy wondering is how slow/fast should they produce itemes.... I think thats going to be the key ingrident in this.

Was thinking of a use for droids again, and I came up with this semi brilliant ideal. Now listen up, and read the whole thing before making any rash comments. The ideal is to turn droids into mini/harvesters factories. Now don’t start blasting off about how this could hurt the architect profession because here is the plan.
Essentially allow us to build a droid into a miniature factory. Droids are machines so they should be able to do the same thing a factory can do, produce identical copies of items!
Here is my schematic Ideal.
{/Factory Name Module} (IE: Equpment Factory Module)
Crafting Station – 2 Identical Crafting Station Modules
Processing Center - 4 Identical Droid Compartments
Input Hopper - 2 identical Item Storage Compartments
Output Hopper - 2 Identical Item Storage Compartments
Manufacturing Cavity – 5 Identical Manipulator Arms
Manufacturing Core – 2 Identical Manufacturing Mechanisms (from architect)
Outer Case – 450 Steel
Then these things could lets say only be put in BL44 Binary Load lifters. This will destroy 2 birds with one stone! WOOT! Giving the Binary Load lifter a meaning and the DE a new toy! Add to the binary Load Lifters a Manufacturing Module slot were you would put one of the factory modules into that slot.

Disadvantages

Yes! Very cool idea.
I don't think any droid should require a skilled user. They're expert systems, just like Peoplesoft etc. The whole point is they're supposed to do stuff the user is either too stupid, too lazy, or too busy to do.
I think it should eat batteries like a bad flashlight. In fact, if you make it suck batteries down fast enough, you don't have to worry about crippling it's productivity, since by virtue of running out of juice all the time, the owner will have to tend to it constantly.
On second thought, er.... maybe it should operate at half the speed and require maintenance instead of batteries, or perhaps just deteriorate with use so that it has to be replaced after manufacturing 10,000 items or something.

Perhaps the 4 Identical Droid Storage Moduels slot thign shoudl be Renamed to Battery Storage Comparment. Essently Allowing the users to put 4 batteries in there (rangeing from 1 charge to 9 charges) and every 10 itemes it uses up 1 Battery Charge?
That would seem prety balanced to me, I don't personaly want constantly put credits into my droid. I'd rather do that for the big factory
. Though eseently its like spending 3 credits per iteme if you were charge a 3cpu for a battery (so 30 creds a battery since it takes 10 resources)
And if it has to be replaced after 10,000 itemes or somthign like that, I'd probaly not use the droid. However perhpas (a non game mechanic thing) maybe if they change the hams of Droids to be yellow and slowly deteriate the ham until it has to be repaired... but no hehe same problem once again. Many great ideals, but only one we may choose
.
Should it take both?

Cool, wouldn't of known though since I just started visiting the DE fourms again.
Guys don't be so critical, I thought of this while sitting on my arse playing around with noive DE. And if it was thought of 2 monhts ago we need to refresh this thought because it is a very good ideal. Anybody else who thought of it thought of a GREAT ideal.

It's a nice idea but I think you gotta let the Architects in on it a little more to make it do-able... maybe require one droid crafting station and one regular crafting station. And possibly a power core unit to keep the juice up there.
I was thinking, maybe just require it to use a Deed from a architect.... Like a Factory deed.. /shrug

K yea i just went though the sticky thread module fourm and did a search for the word "factory" in it and like 15 othe people put it in there too
dont know how I missed that many people when I skimed the fourm.
But lets try to be productive here.
We can put the whole ideal upon the "Min-Factory" as a "Mobile-mini Facotry".
After much thought over this matter. I think the droids SHOULD require maintece and power during the construction process.
Perhaps 2c/1power per iteme?
This realy dosn't make the factory obsolit either. Nothing could possibly replace my factories, that would be insane and imposible (50+ ingridents in a single factory runing up to 100+ crates of itemes). But it would be nice to have for the on the go person.
We shouldn't need to require any more from the architect, anymore and the droid will be to costly for selling. I already get charged just for the Advance Binary Load lifter Chassies like 150k just for ONE chassie, thats not even the droid. (for decoration)
This will be a wonderfull tool for many many doctors and combat medics going on raids. Ran out of ABEC's well get out your droid!
