Thread: DROID IDEAS from a bounty hunter

hello.

i am a bounty hunter by trade, and ive mainly been paying attention to the things that affect my profession, so i admit i havent really been following this droid / droid engineer business too carefully.

however, droids are something that affect everyone else in the game. this is star wars, and what would star wars be without droids?

so, i just thought i would throw my two cents in. please-- let me know if you think these are decent ideas, i wouldnt mind starting a conversation about these things...

1) have medical droids heal.

some people are concerned that this might reduce the effectiveness of medics. so, i will throw in some stipulations.

a) medic droids shouldnt wear a lot of armor.

b) medic droids should require medkits (to be traded to them by players) in order to heal. medical use skill should be something that, in my opinion, could be experimented on or whatever, so cheap medical droids might only be able to use stimpackAs or so, but medical droids made by master DEs could possibly use medpackDs or whatever.

c) if a monster (or npc) sees someone heal someone else, cause the monster or npc to aggro the healer. obviously, somethought should be put into this. someone shooting at a slobber monster for like, 500 dmg each round, should obviously create more "aggro" than a droid healing for 200 every fifteen minutes-- but im saying there should be some kind of relation or happy medium involved.

2) have repair droids repair.

a) they should require parts

b) they should require a camp or house or city to repair things

c) they should be able to repair armor, vehicles, other droids, weapons, etc.

3) have protocol droids...

a) translate languages

b) act as messengers or answering machines when you are away or busy-- "oh im sorry, droidengineer2000 is out of the office, could i take a message?"

and finally, all droids should still require batteries in order to run effectively.

etc...

i know "droid utility" has been discussed a lot, but basically, i think theres definately a way that droid utility can be added to the game in a safe and effective manner. if you need a good healer who can last through some heavy fights (sice human AI will always be better than droid AI)-- pick yourself up a doctor or combat medic in town.

but in all honesty, medical droids should heal. thems the facts. and i would really hate to see a star wars game "avoid" that issue.

We've been arguing those same points for months now. However, the devs have this thing with "game balance", and while they don't see Rancor pets as unbalancing they see Survey Droids and Medical Droids and LV20 Combat Droids as unbalancing. Go figure...

It's nice to know we aren't the only ones thinking of these things.

Thanks for dropping by and giving us your views, I for one appreciate the time it took you to post this here. I can only hope that at least some of the items you outline make their way into the game. I think it could greatly enhance the usefulness and desirability of droids for many other people.

Oh, P.S. I gave you a 5 star before the "one star bandit" lurking the boards got to you

Two accounts cancelled due to lack of Dev interest

The NGE, a sad end to a great game!

Thanks for stopping by, Zounds!

Those are great ideas, and we have talked about similar ones here before. You hit on one of the more annoying points about Droid Engineering right now - Droids don't do what you expect them to do. Surgical Droids don't heal, Repair Droids don't repair, Power Droids require batteries, and Load Lifters can't lift loads. Wait, scratch that, Advanced Load Lifters can now carry a single module, so they can actually lift loads as-of patch 6.

I like the idea of turning Surgical Droids into, essentially, low level healers. I also like the idea of making them use up regular stimpacks just like a player would have to do, and of limiting them to only lower-level stimpacks so that they don't take over the healing professions. I might toss in a base healing rate upgrade of some sort for a base level Surgical Droid - say halfway between just standing around and being in a camp - just so that a low level version could do something. But yeah, allowing them to use Stimpack A's, B's, and maybe C's (for the 95%+ versions) doesn't seem like it would be too earth shattering. It's something I'd want to run by the Medic and Doctor forums first, though - I'm sure they'd have an opinion on the matter.

Good ideas Zounds. They could use some fleshing out, but a good starting point.
