Hey all,

Ok, here is where I reach out to all you Vet DE's, to help a noob DE.

Ok basically I have grinded MDE, and now i am at the stage where I wanna build successful droids. I got seekers and arakyds mastered! lol but thats all.

But i want to know how to build 'useful droids'. I want to build bomb droids, harvesting droids, stimpack droids etc etc. Please can anyone tell me the 'make up' of droid manufacture. Modules, sockets, capsules etc etc...where goes what and what goes where (if u get me)

For example for a Astromech, what do i do. My alt is a Ace Pilot, so I know I have to put the droid chips in to the droid, but what do I put into the droid to make it recieve the chips. How do I make the Astromech a particular Level, 1-6, and do i need to add armor to an asromech or is the droids defences in the droid interface?

Please Please Please help a noob.

I hear so many people say that DE is boring, it has no life, I want to prove ppl wrong.

Many Thanks

Macevelli

Your best bet is to read the Droid Engineering 101 sticky. Your questions are so broad that a meaningful answer would be difficult to give. While reading the stickies, keep in mind that some information is out of date. After reading, if you have any questions about out of date info or whatnot, ask again.

As for the specific questions about astromechs: You need to put a data storage module into an R-type droid. The level of the Data storage module will determine the astromech level of the resultant droid. Droid 'defense' is determined by CL and what lvl armor module you put in. These usually go hand-in-hand. A single lvl 6 armor module will get you a CL 30 droid with max HAM and armor.

The responsible DE not only reads the stickies, but builds Droids as she grinds up the tree, too.

TBH, this is the reason why I wish 'grinding' crafting professions was impossible. Maybe put in a system of diminishing returns on xp when crafting the same thing over and over again. Would have to craft 'x' other things before getting full xp for making something, maybe have to craft something from all 4 trees... It might not eliminate grinding, but it would be more complex, and the resultant Master would know more than MSEs and droid frame units.

However, I did grind through, and was 12pts before I sold my first droid, so yes this is a bit hypocritical. I just wish the process of getting to master had been more educational.

I think it's safe to say the majority of us grinded. Heck I know I did. I picked up the basics as I went by toying with stuff I made, but when I finally finished, I took some time to experiment and familiarize myself with the products so I could make stuff people wanted.

So grinding is just a part of this game, IMHO. Hopefully it's long enough for people to stop and smell the roses as they go, though. I really did get a sense of accomplishment when I got master, and took a lot of pride in it.

To everyone saying "read the stickies" - while that is a generally good idea, I wouldn't put alot of effort into it as it hasn't been updated since JTL came out.

But I believe what the original post was asking was for some specific "recipies" on building droids. I.e. - A good medical droid would have a stimpack dispensor/food and chemical crafting station/med level 6 module/possibly storage modules. A good combat droid could have a combat module/4 or 5 (depending on the chassis) auto-repair modules/level 6 armor.

At least that's what I'm thinking he's asking. I had started a thread over here. But it didn't get too far along before dying out.

4 Months here, 5 boxes still to go

I still love seeing unique droids

But then I alternate between spending time on my crafter and on my combat character, helps cut down on burn out. Shame I cant have them on the same galaxy
