Thread: Don't know if you guys are interested in this...

I posted this in another forum and I was told If I posted it here, you guys would eat me alive. But then I thought, what the hell could be a laugh so here it is. It's not much, but the simplest ideas are often the best - at least to use as a structure for more complex ones.

Ok these are my thoughts,

  • First of all, get rid of the xp reduction, and on CH as well if they get the same affliction with their pets. It's a by-product of the old grouping system, which droids and pets should be exempt from.

  • Second, All droids should be grouped into four categories: Combat, Recon, Protocal and Maintainance.

  • Droid models should be restricted to these categoriesand adhere to guidelines that occur with them.

  • For instance, a Probot should be classed as Recon and should NOT be useable in combat. 3-P0 units should not be useable for anything except language deciphering and vendors etc.

  • More droids should be added obviously, and also the skill tree should be made to accomdate the new droid types. One branch for each category, so a DE can quickly and easily work on a single droid type if they wish.

Anyway, that's my initial thoughts on Droids. *dons his flame-retardant suit*

I don't think those are bad suggestions at all, I would say that your post wouldn't be out of place in this thread - where we're firing wild and crazy ideas on how to get droids improved so people use them more

Well, I'm happy if you want copy/paste them in there. I would, but alas, I'm too lazy.

I would also go as far as to say players shouldn't be able to speak any more than Basic, their native language and one other. Making protocal droids that much more useful, and the game that much more exotic.

Darn it .. I never thought of this idea at all. Surprised it took so long to implement in droids what they implemented elsewhere with the combat upgrade.

Great Ideas indeed. Same with the protocol droid language translator idea.

I'm all for different droid models and such. However, I think the Probot should always be a combat droid.

If you guys do really like this, then pleae push for it. I can't deny I'd be really excited just for the language skill uses (which let's face it, is just an annoyance at the moment - it doesn't add anything to the game). But to my mind their are so many conetations from these simple principles that will make droids unique and almost difficult to live with out. We'd be seeing droids with the regularity we are supposed to in Star Wars.

We are talking about a society that relies on droids for almost all menial tasks as well as many many specialist ones.

I hope I'm not speaking out of turn here, as I'm not a DE myself. But to me, this is what it should be like and I'd happily playa DE if it was like this.

This is unlikely, but is an ideal for me: As an extra, I always thought a player's creatures or droids should be exempt from group rules. I think it would make CHs more valuable on the battle field (it effectivly adds more people to the group for nothing), and maybe you'd even get DEs on the battlefield!

Sorry I just want to clarify...

Is there any logical reason for this? Or do you just like seeing a probot killing things?

Well in the Empire Strikes back, we quite clearly saw the probot shooting at Han and Chewie, and after they killed it, they said it died to easy. So clearly that tells me it should be able to fight. Plus before the recent combat droid changes, Probots got a combat bonus, making them the best combat Droid.

I think each Droid should have their niche, R series make Astro Droids already, Protocol droids should obviously be for interpretation. Barring the addition of new Combat chasis like the Droideka, I can't think of another chasis that fits a combat role better then a Probot.

Well to me, that makes the probot a very desirable recon droid, because it can defend it's self (it only shoots if detected, but can't really win any fights as we saw). Rather than being classed as a rather s***t combat droid, wouldn't it be better if it was a highly powerful recon droid?

A battle droid, assassin droid or super battle droid would make mincemeat out of a probot if we are talking Star Wars lore.

Just food for thought. I might not know my DEs, but I know my Star Wars!

The reason that the Probot was such a wimp was because it self destructed. We have no way of knowing how good of a fight it would have put up. Probably a lot better then it did because Han sounded surprised and said it was to easy.

I guess it all depends what you are talking about. If you are talknig about adding Super Battle Droids and Droidekas, then I would agree with you, however, that would also probably mean adding a Droid Commander profession.

If you are just talking about splitting up our current droids, then I need to respectfully disagree. Of our "current" droids, the Probot is (or should be,) the best fighter. There would have to be a whole new system added to actually make droids "recon" anyway. The other types of Droids you mentioned already exist in some fashion, yet a Recon Droid doesn't really. If we did make recon droids, and kept our current chasis, I would far prefer the DZ70 to fit that role. It is a BH Seeker Droid after all.

Well I guess it's just down to opinion at this point, but i thought it was pretty clear what the probot's (probe-bot?) role was in Star Wars. The fact that it's a powerful combatant in SWG is coincidental, and if the DEs get their revamp there is no way of knowing how powerful/weak some of these droids will become.

"We have no way of knowing how good of a fight it would have put up. Probably a lot better then it did because Han sounded surprised and said it was to easy."

Han: I'm afraid there's not much left. I didn't hit it that hard, it must have had a self-destruct.

Leia: An Imperial Probe Droid....

Even if you don't think it's weak, it would still blow itself up at the first sign of trouble. Not what you'd call a combat droid is it?

But I digress, we obviously differ on our opinion of this, and perhaps we should leave it at that!
