Thread: TK-421....Why aren't you at your post?
After considering this for awhile, I've come to the decision that it's nearing time for me to 'pass the tools'.
As such, at some point soon, I will be resigning my position as Droid Engineer Correspondent.
I have already made TH aware of this and given suggested names for people that might be good replacements. I expect that he or Tiggs may start contacting some of you or taking open applications on the boards. It might be advisable for those interested to get a nomination thread going so that the community can consider this change.
I would not like this change to take affect, however, until a new Corr. is chosen (since I find it unpalatable that we be without a current Corr. for any period of time).
While it wasn't an easy decision, there were a few key items that led to it:
- It is simply time for someone else to hold the 'torch'.
As originally envisioned, the Correspondent program gives access to profession veterans and leadersto be a sounding board, or 'voice', for their profession to the development team. The best program would see a series of players step up to hold the torch and, with each passing, the profession would be the stronger for the varied leadership. So, it's simply time for someone else to have a go at this. - I felt myself approaching 'burnout'.
This is something I very much worried about and could tell it was starting to seep in. Having a Correspondent in burnout-mode doesn't do the profession community any good and only serves to hold us back...not move us forward.
The additional time-strain of the Combat balance/revamp, JTL beta/release, Live toons, Corr. duties, and trying to maintain a life simply had ended up putting too much on my plate. I cannot abide staying in the position when I feel like it would be a detriment to YOU...the very profession that I pledged to serve to the best of my ability. - I'm ready to get back to 'fun' and enjoy the game again as a regularJoe.
Even though not a true "job", per se, the Corr. thing really does end up being like one sometimes. That's okay. I see veterans and leaders in all professions that do this (even when not Corrs) simply cause they want to help. They very nearly need to...
I felt this sapping the amount of fun that was able to have in-game, cause I always ended up testing this, messing with that or otherwise focus on the 'work' part and not really being able to relax and simply enjoy. It's time I got back in the trenches...where I feel I truly belong. - Real-life has stepped up a notch.
There's various and sundry real-life stuff that's come to pass recently that only made my available time that much harder to devote. While I enjoy helping and being a leader, real-life always comes first.

I should add here that there are a TON of people I should thank for being leaders in their own right and making my job look easy.
Both Sintrosi and Drashk have been excellent signposts for me to use to see what it's all about to be a great Corr.
The many veterans (too many to name....you all know who you are) have been invaluable in answering posts, bringing up ideas, helping to tweak things and generally carry the droid lube.
To those that added their hand in all this...you deserve just as much thanks as anyone could ever garner on me (or any Corr)....and maybe moreso.
** End Edit Transmission**
I need you all to understand...
- I'm not leaving the game (so, no...you can't have my stuff).
- I'm not leaving the DE profession.
- I'm not even 'setting down' whatever position I might have as a leader within this profession.
- This decision was in NO WAY made based on any information I have, or have seen, regarding JTL, the Combat Balance/Revamp or any aspect of the game's state or future development. So, don't take the timing of this to mean, "Oh...well, if he's giving up, there must really be some bad news." That just isn't the case.
- I may well peep in on the DE boards as time allows (and will likely lurk)...but my presense may be fleeting and enigmatic (as you'd expect from a "Blue Glowie").

In parting (to keep it short, for once), I want to say that it's been my extreme honor and pleasure to serve you....the best profession community that exists in SWG (and has been suchfor some time).

I think a possible burnout is a damn good reason to handover the torch. I congratulate you on doing your best, and I suspect the "downtime" (ie no corr duties) is going to give you a much needed break. I'd like to say "see you in game" but unless you start on Sunrunner, aint going to happen
So best of luck TK, have fun...but find a good replacement first

That's what I thought. It didn't sit well with me to try to struggle on in that situation. Representing people that trust you is too important to leave to such silliness.

That's what I'm hoping.

Not likely. After supporting like 5 toons at the same time, even that got old. I'll probably have 2 toons. Ahazi and maybe (occassionally) Starsider.

I'd rather find a great/exemplary replacement.
However, I don't think the replacement is really "mine" to choose. The community should choose...to some degree, depending on who applies and who the Devs like.

I hope you can stay on through the Combat Balance. I know I wouldn't feel comfortable with a change of that magnitude going in and not have someone with experience in the correspondant system being there representing "us".
I'd like to...if they want. It would make sense to have me on the Sandbox (and Live, as a break from that)...and I'm happy to do it. I have a really good idea now of what's envisioned and I guess that can only help.
I don't consider taking part in that a 'Corr. thing' (though it likely will be for whomever comes next) but an honor to add my 2 units of local denomination. As always, I'll do my best to ensure that our concerns are looked after...
Thank you TheRealTK421, for all of your hard work.
I could say the same for you.

Its been great having you man,...
Thanks...as I said, it was a great honor and privilege to serve. It's people like you that made the 'job' a lot easier to bear sometimes
...done a superb job (over and above what was asked of you).
All that was asked was that I represent. And Ishall continue to do so until the day I /cancel.
Heh, I'm actually amazed you lasted as long as you did (nothing against you, most people just can't go that hard for that long).
Wookiees are hardy folk.
Definately deserve to go back to "just another guy"... though I think for most of the DE's you're a bit more than that.
Just a bit?

Just dont pass on the torch to someone who uses it to burn down the house
Hey....it's ME!! /givesSoloSmirk
I'm sure they want to see a strong leader just as much as we all do. The 13+ pages of info I took with for TH to the Summit should keep them in DE-stuff for a long time.
