I have been a droid engineer since December of last year. I wanted to be a droid engineer because I felt it was a unique profession with a lot of potential. I have now reached a cross roads where I am a successful armorsmith and my Combat alt is working on the Jedi thing. At this point I feel that being a Droid Engineer for me is kind of useless as my fully stocked vendor barely moves any product and I just don’t have the time for all the complexities in making droids. I am not sure what JTL has to offer us but I hope it will be great. Either way at this point I am thinking of retiring my tools to focus on Armor and Combat. I think there are a lot of good idea's in this forum and if even a fraction of them get implemented it might compel me to pick those tools up one day. My hard part is DE was my first master in this game and I find it hard to let go. I wish all of you the best in DE here and hope that this profession finds its place.

the sad day for me was when i noticed the amount of new de's that dont actually make droids but grind then convert for force xp.
well anyway i suggest to do what you like. i like making droids and so thats what i do. i like it so much that i build them and give them away. they arent my major source of income needless to say so i dont do it for the money, i do it for the love
if you love fighting and building armor then do that. no shame.

My suggestion (if you've got the time) is to try doing some custom orders. It requires more time and patience but I think it adds a whole different feel to the profession. DE is a very unique profession in that its not all about whatever has the best stats. There are tons of useful droid combinations that people want. You may not sell as much, and it will take more time, but if you're looking for a crafting profession that you can really enjoy or thats really different...

personaly i make all mine custom, vendor with 30 r3 units is all very well but lot people want different kit in their droids so ive never gone down the fill a vendor and go off way of doing it. theres no reason not to do a combat skill or trade with it as well though i ve got master architect and master droid and master artisan but if you could just as easy get weaponsmith or armour but dont expect them to be instant winners with so many wep and armour vendors about.

You may already do this. But an important thing for selling droids off a vendor is to name the droids in a very descriptive fashion. For example, I go to my competitors vendors and they have droids with names like:
Deed: Probot, Advanced
or
Deed: Probot, Advanced (combat capable)
you go to my vendor and the droids are named:
Adv Pure Combat Probot: 3200 HAM, 527 combat rating, max armor
Droid never sell as well as armor and weapons, but descriptive names that put all the most important details in the name do help.
You hit the nail on the head. You may even take it a step further. I list my droids like this:
Combat R-3<>deals 160-170 damag/4477HAM/20% resists
Tank Probot<>deals 1 point dmg/heals itself 107 HAM every 10 secs
Doing that really helps the customer out, especially the new ones.!!!

I totally agree, add a little spakle to your droids names and you will find it draws people into staying and looking at what else there is to offer there.
Sometimes when i sell things like Protocol chassis for display or shuttleports, I name them things like : " Retired Ticket collector " or "De-comissioned Protocol droid" then give the droid a brief background history and make something fun up.
I find it helps to add some diversity and fun for players too =)

I hope JTL will bring us new and exciting ventures too, but im hearing whispers that dont sound too good. I am unable to do the JTL testing due to time so I guess its just a matter of sitting and waiting to find out whats in store for us, but I do so much hope we do not get a slap in the face when JTL does come out.
As DE's we should be able to build ALL and any droids that are available to do so and I hope we do not get cut out or have to follow the new proff just to build them.

I agree with most of the posts on this thread. I build droids cause I love to. All of them are different and unique. I have a vendor, but only keep small things like reconstruction and repair kits on it. I do hope that JTL will bring forth a new beginning for us DE's.
