I'm a stern believer that the different droid types should have at LEAST one unique ability built right in that no other type has that is useful enough to warnent buying that droid type exclusivly for their unique ability. Mods should be just bonuses that we can add. The Designer also said he wants to here what we want, so lets post our ideas!

I think peronality chips should be made more evident in a Talky Droid. I mean was there a time when 3PO wasn't talking? The Talky droids should talk alot more than they do, and the proticol droids even more than that. Think about it, wouldn't it be cool if your Surgical Droid said something EVERY time you took him out, ordered him around, maybe have a 30% chance of saying something like "This may sting a little, sir" or "This should help, sir" when you use it as a walking hospital?

Proticol droids should say something everytime there is a action done. Examples: You complete a Secure Trade with someone, it comments, you burst run, it comments, you stand around doing nothing for a while, it comments, you go afk, it comments, it could even comment when some (Rare, or it would get agrivating) words were used. And the personality chip should determine how the comments are said, more examples:

You just finished a trade with someone, your proticol droid is out (Has a Worshipful chip installed) and he comments "That was truly a great decision Master (Your name here)". You go afk, your proticol droid (With a sarcastic chip installed) comments "Fine go ahead and take root here, i'm sure I won' rust TO much waiting for your return". And so on...

As for special unique abilities, these are endless... There are tons of things each droid could do, but I'll name a few that (To me) would be a HUGE help to some people:

Astrometric Droids: Easy, they should be a all-in-one survey device. They range increasing with their model, the lowest being able to survey at 3 times the distance of a normal scanner at survey 4 skill, and the highest being able to survey a 1in by 1in square on the planitary map at full un-zoom.

Load Lifters: What would make me love them is if I had one out, when withdrawing a sale from a vendor, having the option of storing into the vendors stockroom or straight into the Load Lifter. The LL would also have a HUGE storage compacity built right in. This would make moving houses (Changing vendors in general) SO much easier.

Power Droids: Have the ability to 'Sample' power sources, i've had a few times when I've run out of power due to comming to my Generator to find its resource was shifted 2 days ago.

Surgical Droids: The ability to heal wounds in a camp without you needing the medic skill.

Proticol Droid: Inform you of impotant information (Say out loud, and send you a /tell), you recieve a mail? They tell you. You just got tipped? They tell you. They should also be programed to Say Something when a certian word is usedin a 10-15m radius of them or a certian action is done to you. You could program them to thank someone when you're tipped, to auto say your price list when someone asks 'How much'?

DZ70: Able to scan surrounding area and tell you whats in it (Not sure of radius, maybe that of Survey 4 skill level?). Tells you what NPCs, creatures, lairs, etc... are near you.

Treadwell: All in one crafting tool?

Repair Droid: Able to repair things lol.

Probot: Along with the other promised combat droids, their uniqeness will come from being able to hold their own well in a fight.

Just some ides... As the designer said he wanted some, lol. Post your ideas here =D

Those ideas are just lovely!

I'll post a few of my own here soon enough, and HOPEFULLY the devs will see it.

All good ideas, and even if they're not perfect I'm sure everyone would agree they'd be a huge improvement over the current situation. The main problem I can see is with the BLL acting as a huge walking inventory - the devs are doing everything they can to reduce the number of items in the game because of the ongoing database problems, so it's unlikely they'd implement that. One frequently suggested alternative is to allow BLLs to make automated harvester runs - feed them waypoints, money and power and they head off to replenish your harvesters and bring you back the resources. While a simple idea in theory it could be quite hard toimplement into the current pet control model, but it would make BLLs useful without being essential, and would cut out a very dull part of the game for crafters in resource-intensive professions.

Struggling to think of my own suggestions for droids that haven't already been done to death on these boards.....

Tons of good ideas here!

One more idea perhaps:

Let a DE with a "jammer droid" try to slice/jam a factionnal HQ base! Remember all the time R2-D2 hack a terminal in the story!

It would add a little "fun" to a profession which lack fun at all

I agree, a certain type of droid should do something that the others don't do. People who want higher frames only really want them because they look cooler, not because of functionality. Since when did droids become "bling, bling"

I want better droid modules. I want an R2 unit that can repair my weapons or a R2 that can heal me without my needing any medic skills.

The point of this post is the get the ball rolling... I just posted some of my ideas, but i'm sure the Designer wants to to see everyones'! So lets bombard him/her with ideas =D

I'm sorry dear, but even if they do want to read our ideas they have to penetrate the "Dev-field" we have around this board.

Honestly, the devs don't read these board. And if they do (which I doubt) they sure as hell don't post responses in here.
Heck, we even got one of our updates posted on another profession-thread and not a word on our own.

I think that all of the different types of droids w/o inherent functions should be able to have the same mods installed... however, I do agree with benefits for different types of droids.

For example, say the R-series droids, say they can be better for data storage, giving an extra bonus to data storage modules, making them a better droid for data storage, but the other models don't really get penalties.

Treadwells will get bonuses to crafting station modules.

Or, the DZ70 and Probot (and any other combat droids that may be implemented), since they are combat droids, they get benefits for armor modules and aren't as good with service modules.

Just a couple ideas. But I actually have a better idea, to kind of still increase droid customization, and also to actually give a purpose to the higher level droids besides just looks...

There are different level mods for medical, storage, and data, but I think that each droid should also level up the abilities of those mods. Meaning, an MSE with a level 1 storage module can hold 1 item, but an R5 or Treadwell with the same mod installed can hold 2 items, an R4 3 items, R2 4 items, R3 5 items, etc. So each droid would have a different base level for each module.

You have some very interesting ideas here! The idea of using a treadwell as a multi-crafting station brings up another issue that we all have, in that multiple crafting stations in a droid do not function properly. However, what if there was a switch option on the droid's radial menu that allowed you to switch between crafting stations? I think the treadwell is a good choice for this, its an interesting looking droid that is almost never used currently.

Another suggestion I would like to make: The Probot is actually supposed to be a Probe Bot with built in self defense. What if this droid were used in the wild to 'Probe' for information, particularly information about the surrounding creatures. In use, the droid would send information to its master, thereby giving the master temporary ability to fully see the full information on said creatures (basically showing what a master scout sees when they 'examine' a creature) in addition tothe droids current abilities.

What if having an LE repair droid actually increased the chances (percentages) of the owner successfully repairing with a repair tool, including droids, armor, weapons, or anything coming in the future.

I dont think its unique so much as innate abilities thatdroids need. Its shouldnt be too hard to take some of the existing droid functions and build them directly into the chassis thus allowing 'moduleless droids' to have some purpose (they have none since storage was 'fixed')

R-series droids and the LE and Treadwell could have scaling repair abilities, the surgical could have a high medical ability (and add in the lower FX med droids to flesh out the bottom of the range) and the mouse droid could have built in data. Power droid should have build in power (assuming this isntbuilt-in already)

I'm at a loss as to what to suggest for the 3PO droids and a storage capacity for the load lifter seems, well a bit lame for such a high end droid.

The combat ability for the DZ70 and Probots should be enough......if they werent so nerfed - although personally I've always thought the Probot would be better employed with the ability to survey the whole planet for a specifiedresource
