Thread: Droideka: My idea
Alright. So, the devs probably don't really want to add in the Droideka right now. For one reason I would say: If they were the level of on Lok, they would be either very powerful or weak as heck. Aggro ones you find in the hermit DE cave are only level 10 or something. Easy as heck to beat. Other ones are either level 35 or level 45. Very tough.
So, here is my thought: Require parts from an actual Droideka in order to build your own droideka. Basically, you have to go to Lok, kill the Droideka there, and perform a special function that only DEs have called Salvage. Each time yousalvage them, you get 1 part. A droideka requires 11 parts. A body, a lower torso, a head, 2 arms, 2 blaster units, and 4 legs. Blaster units, legs, and arms must be identical. In order to make a complete droideka (by the way, in order to get the Droideka schematic, you would have to get through the Hermit DE cave on Lok and talk to a guy that doesn't exist right now, buy the schematic for 50k from him.) Each part is looted at random, so you may be able to kill only 11 to get all parts, or you maybe have to kill 30. Either way, you are going to need help, which will make it a LOT harder to make. Now,all parts would determine something. If you get the part from a weak droideka, you get a smaller value.
Head: Mind Pool - 6000 for weak, 8000 for medium, and 10000 for strong
Body: Health Pool - 6000 for weak, 8000 for medium, and 10000 for strong
Lower Torso - 6000 for weak, 8000 for medium, and 10000 for strong
Arms: Firing rate - 3.0 for weak, 2.5 for medium, and 2.0 for strong
Blaster Units: Color of lasers and Attack - 220-230 and red for weak, 260-270 and green for medium, and 300-310 and blue for strong
Legs: Determines movement rate when uncurled - half of walking rate for weak, walking speedfor medium, and slightly faster than walking rate for strong
It would also require 500 steel, 300 fiberplast, and 450 extrusive ore to mend the frame, as well as an Advanced Motive System, Advanced Droid Brain, and Advanced Frame Unit, and 2 identical Sensor Units. Alsorequired would be2 identicalMicro Sensor Suites. It would have 2 armor slots, and definately no module slots. All of the high costs and such would prevent these things from being the most common thing in the world. Ifor onedon't want every person in the world to have one of these things.
I know its pretty complex and would take a lot of time to impliment, but it would do a couple of things. One, it would make a viable combat droid. Two, it would make it so that the DE has to rely on grouping. As far as I have seen, grouping sucks except for fun. You can get much more XP from soloing weaker cons than grouping to kill larger creatures. This would create some need for it. And third, of course, would make it very hard to make one of these things. You wouldn't see many people with them.
Of course, I would still want other combat droids, going from Probot to Droideka would be a pretty big jump. There should be some combat droids in between, such as Battle Droids, Super Battle Droids, IG 88, and Dwarf Spider Droids. There could also be other high level droids, the Hailfire Droid and large Spider Droid, that have different stats. The Hailfire would have a very high attack but low HAM, and the Spider Droid would have a very high HAM but a lower attack. I think this method of salvaging should be put into place for all of the higher level combat droids. Especially all of the old ones (Droideka, Spider Droids, Hailfire Droids, Battle and Super Battle Droids) since the technology may have been lost.
And as a side note, the Droideka should be available only to someone who has mastered at least one Elite Profession. That way you eliminate the whole newbie thing, while keeping the droid useful. Once you get to a high level, and you just want a partner to fight, you can get one of these awesome droids. Intermediate droids between Probot/DZ-70 and droideka would be had by increasing skill levels.
Thats actually a nice idea, having to loot the items.
/bump
It'll also start another market in trading these items, with combat orientated droid engineers coming off tops, these droid would also be priced very high with the amount of effort going into them. And because it'll take longer to make, they're wont be many around, which fits into the continuity. Great work.
I can imagine the outcry of many Des if this kind of system were implemented - "I'm a crafter not a fighter, I shouldn't have to kill things to make my droids", or "This is stupid, why can't I make Droidekas from scratch instead of piecing together broken ones". Both would be valid complaints, but personally I think it's a good idea, gameplay-wise. It would encourage inter-class cooperation, provide a more predictable way of limiting production than having a schematic full of rare resources, and if the droidekas were becoming too common the devs could always stealth-nerf the salvage success rate.
I'm not sure about your idea of limiting them to elite Masters though - I agree that some kind of droid certification system is essential if powerful combat droids are to be workable in the game, but it would be kindaweird that a Master Image Designer could walk around with a droideka, but someone with 4/4/4/4 in, say, Commando couldn't. Just my 2 cents.
Just had an idea that totally wouldn't work, but I'm gonna post it anyway. Since droidekas (or any other effective killing machine) are so dangerous, you should be required to buy a license to have them in cities, which would expire after a set time. If you got your Destructobot Ultrakill Mk V out in a city without a license, the local security would warn you, then quickly wipe you out if you didn't put it away. Would be funny to watch if nothing else...... "Stop! Droid Police!"
who's to say you have to fight? friends...make 'em -- go with 'em. Of course the loot system would have to change so that anyone in party could affect a mob (I can't harvest unless I actually hit it). If they changed that and you're in the group good.
Gives fighters that aren't friends a way to supply their fav crafters or friends or just sell out to the highest bidder to help them out. People do higher muscle to assist them in finding things...it would actually make sense to contract some help in order to find a rare artifact/mineral/old and out of date tech. There's scientists in the military, but the grunts clean it out and then the scientists come in so to say
Can't give a real world example of something like this off hand, but think back to our history of exploration in the real world. You had people with basic weapon skills being escorted by people who were better with weapons, traveling to search out civilization. Of course a mechanic isn't gonna take people to some remote city where the best car parts can be found, but that sort of thing isn't unheard of in a game.
Great idea and really nice explained! I hope they will use at least some it if they really gonna add Droideka's..
It would encourage combat ppl to help DE's killing Droideka's
All right dude check this out. This is why it's the stupidest idea ever. Say you do need to harvest the droid parts from the dead bodies. Where did the parts come from that made the droid you just killed. Did god just come down one day and say let there be droideka. I think not. Somebody made them. I know they are spawned but you understand what i mean.
Second, If you do have a party with you to get these pieces, then everyone will want a piece of the action on the final product, leaving you with enough money to run your harvestors.
Third if you put stupid suggestions up here like this, the devs might read it, and implement it in to the game.
I agree. This is a horrid idea. We're Droid Engineers, not Dr. Frankenstein.
I like the thought of salvaging parts from dead and broken droids. But, requiring it to make new droids? Please, let's not make the high end of this class into a bloody scavenger hunt.
