Thread: Droideka... A Trade Confederation Perk

Every time I hear the suggestions for how the droideka's should be introduced into the game I keep thinking why isn't the Trade Federation mentioned.? Afterall, it's thier droids we are talking about. Shouldn't it be natural to have to learn from them how to make them? And, just as importantly, shouldn't we have to get the "key" parts from them? To me, the easiest solution as to how to introduce Droideka's into the game is to require that you get high faction with the Trade Federation. That you spend some of those factions points to gain the schematics. And, require that you spend additional faction points for those key parts that ONLY the Trade Federation can make.

What are the advantages of this approach?

1) First, and most obvious, it makes sense. It fits in the Star Wars history. The supplier and educator are the very ones who DO make these droids. It is the way it should be.

2) This approach makes it easy for the designers to put in natural adjustments to the influx of these new droids. You have to do faction work to get more and I think restrictions should be put in that only a Droid Engineer, preferrably a master, can even get the option in the first place.Plus, by keeping it faction based, the DE will have to keep in good relations with the Trade Federation if he wants to be able to keep getting parts.

3) Not everyone will beablewill be making them. Some will be unwilling to damage some faction that is opposed to the Trade Federation. So, they won't learn how to make them. This is fine. There are other droids not presently in the game that can be added that should also be tied to other factions. They can choose one of those if they decide to. This way we get Master DE's each making different things. In essence, we now get an artisan who's knowledge is "faction based." Maybe they can add new titles like "Trade Federation Engineer."

4) This approach should not be a problem for the developers to implement. It uses similar design to other things already in the game.

Well, that is my basic idea for the introduction of Droideka's. There are a few varients of this idea I have also thought of. For example, a multipart mission could be given instead of a faction expenditure for the orginal schematics. Or, the Droideka's require a special type of power battery that can only be supplied by the Trade Federation. Thus, requiring the droid user to also support them and have good faction. I am sure others can come up with more ideas as well. Let me know what ya think.

So you're suggesting that DE's should have to work even more to get their top product????? We already have to grind more xp than anyone. Wealready have togetcountless parts from other professsions. We already have put up with countless nerfs and blows to our economy. What about the DEs w/o a combat skill?

So Let me get this right having grindedour way up to Master Droid Engineer you want us tobe a COMBAT CLASS and kill lots of Naboo people and Ja-Jas to qualify us to make combat droids?

Thank god I have got nearly all the marksman skills needed to be a Droid Engineer!

And there was I thinking Droid Engineering was just another Artisan Class like Architects, Weaponsmiths and Armoursmiths.

Walker the fact you posted this idea in the DE forum proves you are a moron. Go back to playing CH.

Just alittle expanded info from OdoJob's post:

"The bloodthirsty, cannibalistic insectoids of Colla IV designed the droideka in their own frightening image. The Colicoids crafted the destroyers as an answer to the design limitations of Baktoid Combat Automata's simple battle droids. The end result is an immensely powerful killer droid that is also very expensive. The credit-conscious Trade Federation was able to purchase several orders of droidekas by trading fifty barges full of exotic meats to the ravenous Colicoids.

Though the Colicoids would have preferred their destroyers to remain autonomous, the cowardly and parsimonious Neimoidians slaved the droids to their Central Control Computer, making them as mindless as their standard infantry battle droids." - Expanded Universe

BTW: "The end result is an immensely powerful killer droid that is also very expensive." This is the best SW reason why theseguys should be Master DE material. I believe in a cert system for them for non-DE's, but if you made the darn thing, you should use it. . . (This may contradict BE's without CH skills)

Actually, the fact that you responded in such a manner shows you are unwilling to discuss ideas. And, that you simply assume things that are not true. I am NOT a creature handler. I have never had a pet unless you count nerfed probots. In fact, I am a Master Droid Engineer and Master Artisian. When you want toengage in meaningfull discussion, let me know. Otherwise, you are simply being rude.

I know all about the grinding experience and low combat skills. I ground my way all the way to Master DE. When I started play I fought with 400 health, try it some time. I have all of the background already to look at this concept objectively. I am suggesting they vary our product, That they introduce new content using some common sense. Droideka's come from the Trade Federation. The technology comes from them. Why should every DE learn how to make them? They shouldn't. What you are ignoring in what I am suggesting is that the Droideka's are NOT the only combat droid in existance in the Star Wars universe. There are other non-faction droids they can add. And, certainly more faction droids from other factions that are not Imperial or Rebel. I am suggesting diversity.

Btw, I alsomentioned that an alternate could be missions for the Trade Federation. And, regardless of what ever approach you take, faction should be important here.

I followed your link and looked up droideka's on that site. I will note that they are AFFILIATED with three factions based on that site. So, any of those factions would be a reasonable choice to learn how to make them. However, I could find no text that actually says the trade federation didn't make them. You are welcome to post the EXACT page to clear this up. This topic is only senseless if you are being closeminded.

Teach me to respond post by post and not after having gone carefully through each one. I see the insect race did indeed invent this droid and that, as I said in the previous post, was affiliated with 3 factions. Thank you Tigasnake for the info and exact link. My point still stands though. These are not just used by everyone. There are NOT Droideka's on every corner in the Star Wars universe. I think some of you want to see that. I certainly don't. It will end up just as bad as having dozens of Rancors wandering the streets of your favorite city.

Ok :

1. I have discussed many ideas on this board in previous posts - both those suggested by others where I have complimented posters, and those that I have come up with myself (touche' on the "don't assume" there), don't believe me? thensearch the boards for my posts (I see u have 18 good for you)

2. Fine. I wasn't suggesting you were - but your thought process certainly doesn't address the issue a majority ofDEs seem to have (read the board to validate) which is: fair and equity with other competing Elites (esp. CH)

3. Good for you. I am shockedhowever that youwould be willing to spendstill additional hours working up faction pts for a droideka schematic. I certainly wouldn't be, especially if I wanted faction in the two main adversarial pvp factions: Imp and Rebel.

4. Meaningful eh? ok - let's debate this then:

1. Problem 1 with TF faction: There is no evidence that some 30 years after the Clone Wars ended that the TF is still in existence. The timeline for this Star Wars Galaxiesgame is after Ep IV - A New Hope. There is not only no evidence the TF exist but other aligned groups shown in EpI and EpII are nowhere to be seen either - including the Commerce Guild, Corporate Alliance or the Techno Guild - there is no mention of these factions in EpIV - VI and no representative body/member or specific species of creature representing that group is even seen let alone referred to.

2. Currently no other Elite crafting profession in-game is forced to gain faction in order to gain schematics to build a complete entity (gun, armor, clothing, building, droid etc.), what you are proposing would make DE the only Elite which would be forced to gain faction to be able to build something which should be granted withing the existing DE skilltree. No player is currently forced into a choice of faction in order to be rewarded for a craftable schematic. (yes, you could choose not to do TF faction - but really without the ability to buid a Droideka you would not be able to compete with other DEs). This would be unfair and hurt many DEs who are casual gamers (have a life and fulltime jobs) and barely have enough time to grind to master let alone time to gain faction.

You see this as an interesting and fun in-game challenge to make the profession and the crafting of high level items more challenging and interesting. Personally I disagree completely and look at this as more work to get what I and other DEs should have gotten on game release - a fully functional profession, fully functional modules, fully functional droids and usefull droids. I suggest if you want to add more challenge to your life as a DE then branch out into another profession instead of making our profession that much more difficult to attain a usefull, functioning mastery of.

I'd be happier if the Devs fixed what was broken already before giving us a Droideka or other droid to craft. (Which I'm excited about getting - don't get me wrong) - I just think that fixing what is broken and adding more usefull modules to existing droids is something to focus on first.

I am concerned that the Devs may consider the Droideka a way to "fob off" DE complaints and delay the response and fixes to the other serious and pressing problems our profession and droids have.

Ok with respect to the TF (and this is gonna be my last post in this thread):

I just read an earlier post which mentions TF mobs and TF sympathizing mobs on naboo in-game.

Ok - so the Devs put them in-game. I still argue this makes no sense according to the movie timelines - but then again when did this game and the SW universe ever really match up closely - yah I think I remember Luke storing 3PO and R2 in his datapad! (I mean really Devs - you guys are really stretching this aren't u)?

Okay, but the question I asked is, do they still exist in the same form? The Rebels claim alliegence to the Old Republic, but that does not imply the Republic exists as it once did. Or have they been reduced from a galactic trading concern to a few remnant sympathizers, loyalists and zealots scattered across the surface of Naboo?

I'm not saying the organization doesn't exist, either. I don't know. But as a matter of politics, I can't really see how Palpatine could keep them around. There are holes here that only another movie can rightly fill in.
