ok heres an idea i think would help those DEs that still want to bring something to a battle without the need for huge CL 25+ droids...
NEW SKILL TREE WITHIN THE DE PROFESSION... (and possible addition of these skills to the squad leader professions tactics tree)
DROID COMMANDER ( sorry for stealing the name
)
level 1: basic droid commands
At this level the Droid Engineer recieves the ability to issue commands to droids in his or her group, enabling those droids group into an attack formation.
Skills Gained:
Droid Formation 1 (increase attack rating of droids in formation) "Wedge Formation"
level 2: intermediate droid commands
At this level the Droid Engineer recieves a new formation to issue to the droids in his or her group, in addition the droid engineer can add a new droid to the group.
Skills Gained:
Droid Formation2 (increase damage avoidance of droids in formation) "Wall Formation"
Droid Control 1 (the droid engineer is able to control an additional droid)
level 3: advanced droid commands
At this level the Droid Engineer recieves a new formation to issue to the droids in his or her group.
Skills Gained:
Droid Formation3 (increase attack rating of droids in formation and increase there damage avoidance) "Cone Formation"
level 4: master droid commands
At this level the Droid Engineer recieves a new formation to issue to the droids in his or her group, in addition the droid engineer can add a new droid to the group.
Skills Gained:Droid Formation4 (increase attack rating, amour rating anddamage avoidanceof droids in theformation) "Column Formation"
Droid Control2 (the droid engineer is able to control an additional droid)
Note: droids within the formation that are commanded to do any other action by their "master" will drop from the formation, the Droid Engineer will be unable to make that droid rejoin the formation until after the fight (same as storing after a fight). Droids that can partake in a combat formation are those that have the combat module "formation training" installed, see below.
Droid Combat Modules (note each level of module provides the bonuses of all previous modules)
Combat Module Level 1: Attack Module (the droid has the knowledge to use basic weapons, requires manipulator arm package in the chassis to use this module)
Combat Module Level 2: Defence Module (This module provides the Combat droid with the ability to move while firing, providing them with increased manuverability on the battlefield)
Combat Module Level 3: Formation Training (This module provides the droid with the ability to enter a formation and fight as part of a unit)
Combat Module Level 4: Advanced Attack Module (This module provides the droid with the ability to use a special attack in combat)
Combat Module Level 5: Advanced Defence Module (This module provides the Combat droid with the ability to kneel while firing, providing them with increased defence on the battlefield)
Combat Module Level 6: Advanced Formation Training (This module provides the droid with the ability to enter a formation and fight as part of a unit)
New combat droids
Battle Droid (CL 10): These droids are excellent at fighting in battle formations and when doing so provide an additional bonus to the formation. (maybe +1 attack rating per droid in the formation)
Schematic requirements: must be constructed with a CDEF Carbine. (Artisan)
Super Battle Droids (CL 12): These advanced battle droids are also designed for warfare much like the battle droid.
Schematic Requirements: must contain advanced blaster power handler (expert weaponsmith)
Droideka (CL 15): These droids cannot move while firing very well so are only able to partake in the wall formation. (This reduces there effectiveness in particularly large groups where more battle droids would provide a greater bonus)
Schematic Requirements: must contain 2advanced blaster power handlers from identical factory crate (expert weaponsmith) and a Deflector shield emitter assembly (Armorsmith: deflectors 1)
Disclaimer: i know that most of this would probably require some major overhaul in the way combat droids work but i do believe this is possible and would provide droids a unique niche in group combat.
This also works in conjuction with the "cert" system i wrotea while back where the super battle droids and the droideka would be restricted to the master level of some elite combat professions.

shameless bump ![]()
seriously though if anyone has any comments suggestions to this idea (i like this part, hate this part, etc etc) please post it
you wont hurt my feelings keeping quiet and with some of the great minds in this thread maybe we can come up with something the devs can actually use!
