Thread: A new Idea to balance Combat Droids....they cause delay for the Master.

If I issue averbalattack command, I am delayed... let's say 5 seconds.

Afterthe droidis in combat, it does decent damage, but initiating special attacks will delay me 2 seconds each. Initiating these attacks causes a delay in the Master based on the strength of the special, the quality of the droid, and the skill of the master.

Using pets, and soon Droids, in combat is overly advantageous to the owner because it adds to their combat effectiveness. Instead, it should be like firing a weapon. A droid would be a very difficult thing to control in combat. Using the droid to it's maximum effectiveness would require the Master actively controlling the attacks.

Instead of myDroidtanking for me, I tank for my Droid.

If I have an expert combat droid, like a droideka, and I outfit it with, let's say a Stun Damage cannon, It would be woefully imbalanced if I can keep shooting while it shoots powerful attacks. To activate it's special attacks,I would sacrifice firing my own weapon for a time.

I have several thoughts on the droid cert system, but I think the way pets, and droids operate in combat is the issue, more than the cert system. If using a droid's special attack was balanced like all the other special attacks in the game, then using a droid would not require a profession at all. It would just require the owner to use the droid as a weapon, instead of a tank.

Also, I would accept a 10 second delay if I could have a droid heal me. Medical droids could have combat effectiveness, but they would need to replace the owners attack in the queu, rather than working independently.

I just had another thought. Commands should remain verbal. But an attack should be added to vatious professions with the "MUTE" function, so that the verbal commands cannot be issued. This way, there will be an additional counter for combat droids. You mute the owner, and he cannot activate the specials, or set a new combat target.

I think Droids should be very powerful, but they should replace the owners attacks, rather than working in tandem.

What do you think?

I'm going to say this once, and once only:

This is a company, one that is out to make money, so banning people who hadn't done anything wrong would be really dumb since it would mean that we would be losing money. So before you just believe someone who says they are being wrongfully punished take a moment and reflect.

Also, ranting/flaming and attacking customer service isn't going to fly on these boards so any further posts about it will result in the suspension of that person's forum account.

I don't think that adding delay for combat droids would make them balanced. I thinkit would make them undesirable and defeat the purpose of having them at all. The way player controlled mobs operate in combat is fine. The point of having them is to support their owner's abilities, not to become their owner's primary form of attack. The system you've outlined would probably cause pets to be used by so few thatthey may as well be removed from the game.

If the current pet combat system remains, droids will remain weak. They add to the power of theowner in an unbalanced fashion, and without a trade-off, this quickly throws things out of whack.

Example-Pre-nerf Creature Handler

Creature handler was finally killed when they made all the pets in the game suck. Is that to be the fate of the Droid Master?

Either the Combat Droids will suck and be worthless, or they will be good and it will be too powerful. If the best Droids can only be controlled by a Master Droid master, then they could be powerful. It would require so many skill points that the player cannot function without droids. If, on the other hand, Droids functioned like weapons, they could be extremely powerful for low-level users...by replacing their weapon. Using the weapons on the droid would be another way to fight.

Currently, Creature handlers have the ability to activate special abilities and ranged attacks on their pets. This system would be no different, except that activating a powerful attack would delay the user...just like firing a slow weapon.

If this came to pass, Droids could have awesome special abilities like fire, poison, stun damage, or the ability to heal the owner. But if Combat Droids function as pets do now....expect them to never be more powerful than the most popular CH pets.

Also, consider this. How many Creature Handlers would there be if the only tamable pets were made by Bio- Engineers? Very, very few. This is what the Droid master profession will face if Droids are not made powerful enough. Droid Master won't be abe to go out and tame wild droids, so they will be utterly dependant on DEs for their gear. This is a huge hurdle, and I don't know how it is being addressed.

The Devs face an extremely difficult balancing issue. They want to make Droids popular...but this will only happen if they are made powerful. I don't think Droid Handler should require a profession. I think there should be a "Max Level of Droids" mod in the combat tree of every profession. If someone takes every combat tree from every profession, they are, by definition, a droid handler. They would thusly have access to the best droids.

The problem with this system is that since everyone will get to use mid-level droids, they cannot be made very powerful.

I don't know. As I write this, everything about balance reminds me of how stupid AT-STs have been for sooo long. They remain the most unbalanced part of this game, even after having their power reduced many times over. I can't imagine any pet or Droid ever being made as powerful as these bahemoths....but why not? Because they ADD to the power of the user, without taking anything away.

If it delayed the owner 5 seconds to have an AT-ST attack...it would be balanced. Ifthe attackcommand is not issued, the AT-ST should only do 200-300 damage or less. Firing a weapon, any weapon, should have a consequence. An AT-ST is a weapon, a pet is a weapon, a Droid is a weapon. They must cost the user something.

That cost will either be a time delay on attacks....or about 64 Skill Points.

I see the sense ion your argument. But I do not think it is the answer.

I think one should have a choice of powerfull combat proffession(s). Powerfulls pet proffession(s), or a mixture of some of both.

This is complicated to impliment in balance. But your solution, IMO, takes away too many options.
