Thread: My Idea For Droids
What about this idea:
Players go to a droid engineer and buy acombat droid.Players can only own one of these kind of droids at a time.
Ok let's say that now the player has an extra character slot, in which the player can log on and play as a free thinking droid! You basically start as a low level droid. You go out and fight and gain experience. As you get enough experience, you level up and open up new skill boxes. Each skill box opens up certifications for new weapon upgrades, motivators and armor upgrades, which you can buy from DEs. You also have to go a droid engineer for maintenance from time to time.
With humanoid droids you could have them learn to be proficient with a weapon of their choice. I think to master your droid would cost about the same amount of experiencing and time as mastering a regular combat profession. The beauty of this plan is that you cannot log onto your main and your droid at the same time, so you don't have to rebalance them!! At the same time you could keep combat droids from crafting and share the storage and lots between the player character and the droid, as not to abuse the two. Plus you give the player some variety from their regular account and let them roleplay as droids.
I think this would solve the balance issue, make it so everyone can own and be a droid, and at the same time they have invest just as much time into their droid as they would to mastera combat profession. Plus I believe it escapes all the falicies of having a SCS. What do you guys think?

I don't know about the extra slot part. Who needs it? But I always thought that there ought to be one or two droid "species" you could play as. Assasin droids, after all, have been portrayed in other Lucasarts games and some of their books as being totally autonomous...no master to tell them what to do. And I wouldn't mind playing as a protocol or assasin droid or even a repair droid. I'd even do it if the professions were limited to those that would be appropriate for that droid type, as in, let me play as a surgical droid, but only with medical related professions. Or as an assasin droid, but only in professions like marksman, scout, BH, etc... Or a protocol only for politician, or maybe artisan/merchant...
It would certainly add more droids to the landscape. Make the look-and-feel more StarWarsy to have droid players running around.
