Thread: Droid Complexity test

Yesterday, Doughbacca and I talked briefly about Droid Complexity skill tapes and whether or not they do anything. We both had theories about their purpose, but neither of us had concrete information. (And no, I don't consider the "invalid skill" message concrete. That could just be a typo in their database.)

So I decided to perform a simple test.

Theory #1: Droid Complexity increases access to schematics with lower "level" tools and crafting stations by lowering the complexity of the items being created. In other words, if you have +3 Droid Complexity you should be able to make a complexity 18 item with a generic crafting tool instead of just complexity 15 items.

Theory #2: Droid Complexity lowers the complexity of a finished product, which will lower the amount of time required to produce the product in a factory. Factory time is, in part, based on the complexity of the item being produced, so lower complexity should equal faster production.

The tests:

I tried several variations of Theory #1 attempting to find something that I could build that was "over" the limit of my various tools. None of them worked. Part of the problem is that construction of items is not just limited by complexity - items also state specifically which crafting station they require, so even if Droid Complexity did lower an item's complexity you'd still get caught by the crafting station requirement. At any rate, level 18 items that were showing up when I used my specialized crafting tool disappeared when I switched to a generic crafting tool. (No crafting station in either case.)

To test Theory #2, I created a Level 4 Medical Module (complexity 20) and experimented it up to complexity 30 using my experimentation points one by one. The results were identical whether I had my +3 tape enhanced clothing on or not. Just to be sure, I not only unequipped the clothing when I was doing that half of the test, I dropped it in my house and then ran outside to my factory. Both Medical Modules resulted in a complexity 30 manufacturing schematic, and both items took the same amount of time in the factory to construct. No difference at all.

So there you have it. I don't believe that Droid Complexity skill tapes have any effect at all.

Perhaps +3 isn't high enough to have a noticeable effect.

I thought that the Droid Complexity opened up the color palette with which to customize droids with...with being a master DE mean nothing since you have reached the cap. I also thought that Droid Complexity increased how long the customization would last on the droid (number of fades before color is gone). My theory is that the DC skill + the tool value = number of fades.

Your thinking of the Droid Customization Tapes, not Droid Complexity. When you look over at your skills, you will notice Droid Complexity isn't even listed in the skills. Only Experimentation, Customization and Assembly show up as valid skill modifiers.

I've seen negative (-XX) droid complexity tapes. Maybe it's the negative ones that are desireable?

Or maybe you need 10 droid complexity points to actually move the complexity by 1 point, like the experimentation tapes?

Complexity tapes aren't working at all ATM, for any profession. They lower the complexity of each and every schematic of that profession type, when they work.

In what way? Theory 1 or Theory 2 above?

You might want to read my thread that I posted on this about a week back. I spent half a day testing this and came to the conclusion that it didn't work. I'll dig up the thread later this evening when I get some free time.

Almost right. The Complexity tapes lower the inital complexity on all items. A component that is normally 18 will have a complexity of 15 in your example. So.... If you have a +10 Droid Complexity bonus, all of your schematics will be redueced in complexity by 10.

Drashk, that is not correct. Finally found my documented experimentation - it was 8 pages back.

Droid Complexity Tape Experiment

Right now, complexity tapes are useless.

I tested that, Drashk, and it's not true. Sorry I wasn't specific about it.

The Level 4 Medical module showed up as complexity 20 at the start of both tests, whether I was wearing my +3 bonus or not.
