Thread: A question from someone who has NEVER used a MOB as a pet

I am a droid fan.. I have used the probot though all of it's uselessness...

I have bought bots for others (who simply didn't know the kind of modules that could be put on them)...

I am a customer.. and a fan of droids...

There are NOT enough in the game.. and WAY too many other 'pets'

Now I hear that the combat droids are going bye bye?

And we are getting 'utility' droids?

Ok someone straighten me out.. what the HECK isa 'utility' droid beyond something with the same kind of modules I can get on an R2 or R5...

And why did we lose combat droids?

As a BH.. I get 'droid handling' modifiers (granted they never work... but what the heck I get them).. and BH's and Smugglers traditionally can use all kinds of droids to help them out.... SO I understand that different droids should get certs (or at least the arguement for it).. just like weapons... but why remove them?

Thanks

Combat droids aren't removed, they are delayed while the Devs figure out the best way to impliment them.

Utlity droids are just what droid in Star Wars are supose to be, something to help with small task. Now as to what the devs will put in i'm not sure but some of the player sugestion include droids that slice, harvest resources, check on harvesters, act as mini factories, repair weapons and armor, and so on.

Utility droids (IMO) need to come first since that will keep them as droids and not just metal creature pets.

As for combat droids, the way thing were about to happen you wouldn't be able to use them as a bounty hunter. Combat droids were to be the sole domain of a new proffesion the Droid Handler. So be happy things are happening differently. The DEs were fighting to get combat droids spread out, the Devs were making it so as a BH you got no more droids than you have now.

To clarify: Probots are not going away, and other existing droids may gain some small measure of fighting ability quite soon.

What's being put off is the introduction of much more powerful droids, while they try to figure out how they can allow players to use them without throwing the entire game out of whack.

The initial plan (strongly shouted down by many of us) was to introduce a new profession, who would have been the sole users of these new droids.

As for utility droids, we've been clamoring for months now, trying to get new kinds of modules into droids, so that there would be some real choice in droids, and real advantages in the more capable droids like the advanced R2 and R3 units.

Guys, We're Droid Engineers in the game.... but we got a lot of brains in this forum in reality as well. Why should welock ourselvesinto black and white categories about what is Combat and what is Utility.

Why not have both?

I made a large post on what I call "Combat Utility Modules" (CUtM) that would help to get more droidsinto combat environmentswhile also providing a higher "utility".

See my post Here:
My Proposal on Combat Utility Modules (CUtM)

What about a module that lessens the duration of negative combat effects (dizzy, stun, etc)while the droid is grouped?

What about a shield module that helps increase the group's overall ranged defense by a small factor while the droid is grouped?

If we pour some brainpower into merging combat abilities with utility modules, we can get the best of BOTH worlds... appealing to DE's who want to build more and help people in more varied situations while also appealing to combat jockeys who want an extra edge in combat.

Combat and Utility do not exclude one another!

I think that's an excellent point, Virtanis, and ties in with a post I made earlier today. I was thinking how nice it would be if non-combatants sought out strong combat-capable droids, while strong fighters might seek droids that aid in other ways than direct attack/defense.
