I've heard some people saying that the crit fail rate is around 5% and that is way too high. Well, I've been having a crit fail rate of around 40% on final assembly for the past week and I'm about ready to give up.
It isn't me... I'm master DE and master artisan
It isn't my crafting tool, it is +14
It isn't my crafting station, it is very good and besides, this pattern persists despite which station is used.
It isn't my materials... by God, I'm using and losing the very best.
Final assembly of droids and droid chassis is just ridiculously risky right now. Last night I tried three times to build an advanced probot loaded with modules. Two crit fails on final assembly in a row. The third try I got a crit fail on chassis assembly. These failures were not on experimentation, I never got that far. So, about 2 hours of work and I had nothing to show for it. About 20 minutes after the last failure (after which I gave up by the way) the Valcyn server bit the dust along with just about everything else. I don't know if that played a role... perhaps the server was so borked that I was doomed all night long. The other day, I also had seven crit fails in a row when trying to assemble arakyds... think of how many successes in a rowI need to get back to a 5% failure rate on arakyds now... The mind boggles.
Either I'm the most unlucky person in the world or you all must be having similar experiences.
I must tell you, I'm not a masochist and I have no intention of dealing with this for any length of time. It is much worse than being not fun... it is torture. They need to do something about this or I'm outta here.
It seems like DE, BE and architect are getting hit worse than other artisans, but I think architects were thrown a bone and don't lose resources anymore on crit fails. Losing an hour's worth of subcomponents is about the most incredibly stupid game design concept I've ever seen. Having it be any more common than a rare fluke is almost criminal.
Perhaps if I travel to Endor or Dantooine I can find a shamen or priest to perform a ritual to purge thebad spirits and lift the curse from me and my equipment... I dunno.

What I've seen is 'unlucky streaks', where failure after failure happens.
I've reached the point where after a critical failure I do anything BUT trying to craft some more.
Many MMORPGs seem to have very 'streaky' random number generators, that seem to generate low roll after low roll sometimes. Try killing some durnis or something to get past it.
