Well, first off I loath the whole Idea of Driod Handler Class, I've heard it called 5 different things now, but call it whatever you want, it still sucks....

I want to be able to control anything I can create, period. so.. with that in mind I thought maybe something like this would work.I know that's it's probably to complicated to actually do, but /shrugI thought I would throw it out and see whatcha all thought

Driod Engineer would be able toCreate and Control Every Droid, But Couldn't something like what was done with weapons be applied? or maybe evenexpanded on..

I create aBinarry loadlifter...a Commandogives me a Flamethower tomount on it.. with a little of this and alittle of that Iinstall it...

Now I can still Control the loadlifter, but the damage is reduced to almost nothing, just as if I had picked up a flamethrow myself.

The commando can use it at full power, becuase he is certed for Flamethrower..

The weapon could loose points the same as it would if it where in the commandos hand, and eventually need to be replaced

Someone probablyalready thought of this, or it so stupid that it was dismissed, or so hard to program it's impossable.... but /shrug at this point, with all that going on,I just wanted to throw it out there

Ipartially disagree with this. I agree with the fact that droid engineers should be able to control every droid, but I dont think that commandos should be able to control a droid with a flame thrower cause they have the cert.

Droid Engineers are always getting the shaft.

#1. Of all the artisian crafters resources & experimentation will not effect the final product which is a droid. All other crafters make good and bad products based on resources, why cant we?

#2. Of all the artisian crafters droid engineers make the least usefull items.

IT IS TIME FOR DROID ENGINEERS TO GET SOMETHING WORTH WHILE THAT IS ALL THIER OWN. IMO it should be the ability to call multiple droids out at one time. Only being able to use the most elite combat droids.

You don't want to give a commando a droid with a flamer in it..that would just be wrong on many levels. Instead of a commando completely destroying everything with his flamer, he'll nowdestroy everything twice as fast with his good ol' load lifter effectively doubling his damage output. Talk about imbalancing...

I think that was a 'for instance', so don't get so heated up.

I don't see how having a weapon certification (or not) would cause your droid to do more or less damage with that weapon. Once the weapon is gaffa taped on, you tell the droid to engage the firing mechanism and wave it's arms about!! It's about how well the droid can use the weapon at that point.

But I can't see this happening either It would be cool to have completely custom stuff like that, but I think the best we can really hope for is one or two combat related chasis, and some combat modules to put in them.

Personally I'd like to see particular chasis only able to be fitted with particular combat modules. That way you can easily balance the HAM/Damage ratio for each droid. Having an uber-damage combat module in a slightly fragile shell, and a tough shell with a low damage weapons package should balance out reasonably well.

You could then design different ranged/melee combat modules for each droid type.

But I guess it's all wishful thinking at this point. We'll just need to sit back and see what the devs think we want this time around.

JustG, 07 Nov 03: "We ARE focussing on Droid Engineers. January will see low and mid-level combat droids, and February will see some serious high level ones."
JustG, 25 Nov 03: "I will tell you this, Droids (and DE's) are going to be the MAIN feature for the January publish. We will be fixing alot of things and adding combat droids.Yes, talk is cheap."
JustG, 04 Feb 04: "Lucas and SOE agreed that Publish 6 would be focussed on the Imperial Crackdown. Droids are not the MAIN focus. We plan on implementing combat droids in P7, and Utility Droids in P8."

bigbursar, you misunderstand my point. When evaluating a system, it's often best to take the worst case scenario first, and see exactly how misused it will become. The original poster happened to usethat alreadyas a example, so i went with it. I know it was a case in point, so i used it as a case in my point as well.

Having said that, i agree that being able to craft weapon types into droids would be a great system. However, i wouldnt want those droids to be in just anyones hands, as that would lead to the afforementioned imbalance. If we were talking about their inclusion intoa Droid Commander class, then it would work great and i'd be for it.

With the Droid Commander now mostly dead, i think that any chance of a robust new crafting system for DE has gotten a great deal smaller.

I have thought of this 'weapon cert' thing too. I think it is easily enough programable. But a bad idea. It doesnt 'make sense' that a droid has any effect from your weapon certs. What does make sense (tho maby still a bad idea) is that a DE might have to buy weapon comps from a WS for his droid.

Im in favor of the following idea

http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=droid_engineer&message.id=57529&page=1

I think it answers every issue I can think of. Every issue, I have heared of.

Any weapon cert you might have , would still be of benifit to you, in that, you could use the weapon your self, in combat along side your combat droids.
