As smooth as the graphics are and as beautiful as this game is, there isn't much variation as far as visuals go. You can walk through many objects, can't stick stuff on tables, and some weapons look identical. More on this later and how it is integrated with Droid Engineer.
But this isn't the point.
I read the strategy guide for this game (which isn't as helpful as it used to be of course, lol) and I read the manual, and they talk about how much you can customize it and how awesome droids are due to this. And although I understand the strategy guide was doing a role playing thing, I will quote it the description of the profession in the guide:
"Ever hear a droid say, "Thank the Maker"? It's not talking about theology. It's talking about the engineer who made it. Droids don't make themselves, after all-well, not since the Clone Wars at least. Though the Droid Engineer's creations are often slighted by living creatures, they are still very much in demand."
*Cough*
"Every living creature has short-comings-gaps in his or her knowledge database. Droids assist the living by doing the things they can't do for themselves."
*Coughs again*
"From medical attention to repair work, from powering installations to just plain lifting things, droids do the simple jobs that many living creatures have never bothered to learn to do."
*Coughs again*
"Droid Engineers are responsible for everything put into the droid. They construct the chassis. They place the motivators. They program the personality."
That would be a neat feature. Give them phrases for certain situations.
"If a droid has problems, don't blame the droid; blame the Engineer who built it. And while many Engineers have made their fortunes in the mass production of popular lines of droids, the real love of Droid Engineers is to tinker with their creations."
*Breaks into coughing fit*
"They add all sorts of accessories to a base model blueprint: extra manipulator arms, added sensor packages, armor plating, even custom paint jobs. If sitting around a workshop all day does not sound like the life you want to lead, you may not be cut out to be a Droid Engineer. It could still be your hobby, and a good way to earn money, especially from Bounty Hunters who always seem to be looking for tracking droids."
I picked Droid Engineer over Architect, and I'm hoping this next patch will make me like my decision. But there is one thing that would send droid demand through the roof. And I will make the next recomendation, and of course you can make the weapons weaker than they sound to balance it out, but just listen to it.
Adding on parts. Adding on guns. Customizing the look of a protocol droid to make it look shady and graft a blade onto it's arm. This should mix in with the Droid Customization branch. You could customize the look of your droid when making it just like customizing a character in the beginning of the game. You would make the head of the droid, customize it's look, and the same with the arms and everything. You could make an R2 unit have loads of manipulator arms and a flamethrower pop out of it's compartment.
Back to the point stated at the top, this game isn't very visually varying. So let's make Droid Engineer the most visual profession yet. Make droids completely unique, like characters. Program them to say certain things. Let's have the ability to tinker with them, and make our own custom droids. People would love to have their own little droid with that electric taser that pops out of it's chassis compartment, and it would be their own little droid.
Droids right now are boring. Flat out boring. I'm sorry to admit it, but droids no are not exciting like in the movies. This would be the ultimate change.
