I've just posted over on the ID forum (URL below). I'm expecting to get one-starred, though I tried to make my suggestions as politely as possible, but I think the best way for us to proceed is probably to lurk around some of the other profession boards, and pay attention to the things they're asking for. They typically won't be asking for a droid, but many of their desires include things that could reasonably be implemented as droid functions.
That is the sort of thing we should be looking for. We as a profession exist to make other professions' lives easier, and the best way to help droids live up to that ideal is if we as players focus on how people could be helped by our droids, and make our suggestions based on that. Many of us are dual-professionals, and thus probably frequent other professional boards here. Pay special attention to what would make your life easier in that profession, and what your peers are asking for.
The better we are at helping other professions, the more it helps our profession.
The three main criteria I see as making an ideal droid function (as I stated in the ID post) are:
As a fourth item, I would suggest that the function be more than just a passive skill modifier. It may not be possible to achieve all of these perfectly in every droid function, but abilities that do meet these criteria should certainly be considered prime candidates for future droid enhancement.

The three main criteria I see as making an ideal droid function (as I stated in the ID post) are:
1. The function significantly helps someone in their profession.
2. The function, while significantly helpful, is not necessary. No profession should be gated by the inability to acquire a droid.
3. The function should not replace skills which could be provided by another player.
