Thread: Droid Engineers!!! I want to be converted!!!
My main gripe with SWG is the lack of Starwarsyness and IMO, DROIDS are the answer.
So.... what I am looking for is to be convinced of the need to go and get me some droids.
First simple question: Do I need any particular skills to be able to use my droid?
Some statements made to me:
Droids as fighters suck - no Ham and no offensive skills.
Droids as crafting stations suck, compared to regular stations - better than no station at all however.
Droids for data storage are buggy.
Another question: Can Droids store items?
More questions will probably follow, based on answers.

Gee this should be fun ...
As fighters the best bot we produce has 810 ham, 50 damage, and 40% resist (all).
crafting stations are of good quality though have never noticed a difference from my droid crafter and my sationary one.
Data droid aren't bugged, they just dont do anything helpful. (only store schematics basically).
Storage droids do work (they hold 10 items).
Thats it ...

"First simple question: Do I need any particular skills to be able to use my droid?"
Nope
"Some statements made to me:

If you use them as tanks they suck, if you use them as support fire they can help you.
"Droids as crafting stations suck, compared to regular stations - better than no station at all however."
If you don't craft then there is no point in them, if you do craft they are great as you can craft and experiment anywhere you have the droid.
"Droids for data storage are buggy."
Droid data storage works fine, the problem is that the only thing they can store is schematics and are thus pretty much useless.
"Another question: Can Droids store items?"
Yes, up to 10 items max.
Boy as far as droid crafting stations, I love mine. I am guessing that those who are complaining don't have a good crafting station in their droid. The resources on Intrepid haven't been the best but my crafting is only a +5 out of -15 to +15 and I rarely fail. I also have a 14.98 crafting tool. So if you have the right tools and quality, they are great and mobile.
But yes droids are bugged to death. Storage isn't worth it. Data, it has no use anymore since it is bugged. Fighting, well they are a backup. Don't let your droids start a fight.
But I love droids and hope to see them improve. I am patient, well most of the time. I would like to see a step forward. So far not much has been done, if any. And droids have taken a few steps back.
If you are patient, this will be the best profession and droid will the most important thing a person will need.
thanks for replies.
Follow ups:
- The 10 item storage - it increases my limit or acts like a satchel?
- I think I read that 5 droids is the limit per person, and that I can only have 1 out at a time. Are these both correct?

Ok, agreed.

I can try!
First simple question: Do I need any particular skills to be able to use my droid?
Not to use a droid in general, anyone can operate a droid. But in order to use some droid modules additional training may be required. For example, you can't use a droid's medical module unless you have a minimum of being trained in Novice Medic. Other Modules such as crafting stations require you to at least be able to craft things on your own.
Some statements made to me:
Droids as fighters suck - no Ham and no offensive skills.
There are only 2 droids with working attack commands, the DZ70, and the Probot. If you tell any other Droid to attack (not programable, but the droid will respond to the single word) it will automatticly flee towards the spot where it was called out. The DZ70 is not even close to being considered a fighter. With only 40HAM, any single low level creature can take it out with ease. The Probot on the other hand is a bit better. With 810 HAM and the ability to be equipped with armor makes it more formidable against low level enemies. One thing to remember: The Probot IS NOT A TANK, and will go down if sent out alone against most mobs or against any high level aggro. They do, however, offer decent ranged support against most enemies you will face in the wild.
Droids as crafting stations suck, compared to regular stations - better than no station at all however.
Of course an architect can always build a better personal crafting station, but can you always take one of those with you in the wild... definately not! Another plus side to the droid crafting stations is that you can make things with higher complexities which in-townpublic crafting stations will not allow. That's 2 advantages there.
Droids for data storage are buggy.
Droid data storage is basicly useless at the moment. All uses that served any real purpose have been removed. Data modules only store factory schematics, and there is no one that keeps more than 2 or 3 of those at a time. Hardly no need for extra storage for those.
Another question: Can Droids store items?
Yes, just not as much as a backpack or satchel. Right now the cap is at 10 items.
- The 10 item storage - it increases my limit or acts like a satchel?
acts like a satchel kinda, you have to have the droid called out, and the droid has it's own invitory which you can open place items in and close, but the droid has to be called for you to get into the droids invitory.
- I think I read that 5 droids is the limit per person, and that I can only have 1 out at a time. Are these both correct?
Yup

If I *ahem* had a *cough* creature out **sorry** - can I still have Zippy the robot out at the same time?
What kinds of XP are there associated with using a Droid?
Don't forget that medical modules can be made 10% more effective than a hospital, for use by a medic.

You can have creature and droid out at the same time. If your MCH you can still have 3 creatures and the droid out.
No XP for Droid use.
Also note that the inventory in droids is in addition to your personal inventory.
