Hey guys forgive me if the content of this message has been discussed a million times but please read my comments.

First off I wanted to be a DE more than anything before I got swg. I had visions of droids being integral to swg, useful for every task and people would love me because I would be the biggest droid boffin in the galaxy.

When I finally got to look at the skilltree I changed my mind. Now Ive played the game for eleven months and there have been two revamps for the profession I still dont see a great reason to be a DE.

The only must-have droid seems to me to be the medical droid, which no coronet buffer would be without. Some of the rest are nice (like the explosive MSEs) but compared to the range and diversity of items that architects and weaponsmiths have access to, I think droids need still more serious attention paid.

Part of the problem I think is that there arent many purposes which you HAVE to use a droid to succeed. Entertainer and harvesting droids enhance the experience but arent necessary at all, barker droids I dont see used ever, combat droids never get called out. Just look at the binary load lifter. The only real use Ive seen ppl find for it is to name it something like "cometomyshop" and leave it out in the starport.

JTL will mean everyone wants a repair droid for their ship, but what about the ground game?

If there was a better revamp for the droids Id pick up my soldering iron in a split-second.

Dont hold your breath for DE and JtL. Its likely they will let a player "assign" any R droid to the ship, and it will leave their datapad permanently. THis droid will also likely not need any special modules, or quality. If history can be used as an example, the ship owner can buy an empty R droid, "deposit" it in the ship, and NEVER SEE A DE AGAIN!

Yes, I'm not very hopeful about JtL....

Wait a sec, I do remember reading a Cinco Barnes articlethat says there will be new droid modules. I don't have the link to it, but I clearly remember it.

I'm not going to get my hopes up that DE will be as important as a weaponsmith for JTL, but I don't think we should be as gloom and doom as saying that an R chassis is all we're going to sell.

Personally I think by voicing such low expectations here, it only helps the devs screw us in the long run. (well after all that's all you expected, right?)

Now I also don't believe for a second the Pie-in-the-Sky stuff that ship droids will be able to repair ship systems, enhance targeting functions, enhance power transfers between systems, temporarily boost wep and engine output. All that is just dreaming - but I think there will be a decent reason to buy a whole droid, well at least once.

I was thinking about going up the tree and was unsure. . . . I went out and bought all the resources I would need and then on wednesday I learner Novice Artisan, in 1 hour and 45 min I was 444 and novice Droid Engineer. . . . Now I made about 30 Mousestorage droids with some components from a buddy of mine and placed em on a vendor. Now I mastered the tree last (thursday night) night I did 15 boxes in about 5 hours woot woot, what a grind. But as of yet I have sold 6 MSE Storage droids at 10k a piece. which is 60k for the day, I know this isnt much but you also have to take into account that there is no diversity on my vendor. 1 type of item. . . .any I f-ing love this and cant wait to get off work and start making some serious droids. . . .

I think you pretty much summed up my feeling about DE.
From expectation to reality.

The only really needed droids are BH droids, item storage and Medical droids.

And that's why they sell well, and all the others don't.

Should have qualified that as Arakyd BH droids. Once we sell an infinite resuse seeker to a BH, he never needs another...

I still sell slightly more Seekers then Arakyd Probes... don't know if its because of all the people trying to master BH and haven't encountered the bug yet, or what.

Honest BHs. They're out there and they will avoid the infinite bug...If they can find a stocked vendor when they need a seeker. Iimagine that some don't know about it, but I've gotten orders for them that go something like this:

JoeBH: hey can you make me 10 crates each of arakyd and seeker droids?

Me: Sure

JoeBH: Thanks, how much will i owe ya?

Me: 160k, thanks for buying the seekers even though you dont really have to

JoeBH: no problem, I only use the re-use bug if im out and I cant find a DE

I wouldn't hold my breath on JTL giving DE's more business either. It's been talked about in other threads that there probably won't be any new modules for this. With everyone getting newbie droids now when you start a novice profession they can always put those in their ships. We all will probably get a newbie droid when we get the Novice Pilot professions or our choice.

/emote Looks at Gungeun's sig

And it has worked so well for the professions that you have chosen to pick up?

I'm sorry, but petitions, whinning, and threatening to quit the game don't work. Every time that a profession forum whines or complains, they get some sort of fix/nerf that ends up gimping them in the long run. The DE forum has done its fair share of whining and complaining over the past year and it resulted in the loss of DEV production time being wasted on a quick switch from combat droids to utility modules.

Let us also look at the proposed Merchant Changes.....do you really want to ask that upon ourselves?

The really messed up DE's.

As i once dream of being a Master DE, but that was at launch and before launch.

Now, i want to be one, but they have no significance to me. They dont really do all that much that can sell a TON, or be very helpful, cept if your taking down bases and doing those uber quests.

They really need to include DE's into the game, i say, we start a whining thread.

Hell, Doctors did it to CM's and it worked, why not start a whining thread and a petition with ideas for people sign. For some reasons, devs makes there changes based on those.
