I started out as a musician, and after crafting some instruments I noticed that if I experimented with the crafting process, it had no effect on the instrument looks, its effectiveness, or its lifetime: all instruments work perfectly, they all look a bit battered, and they all last forever.
So now I'm travelling up the DE ladder, and I was wondering what I had to do to ensure the best quality for items where the quality DOES make a difference. Crafting tools, for example, are very much affected by the quality of their components. Can anyone tell me what attributes I should generallybe looking for in raw materials, and whether one type of metal is really all that different from another. If so, how do I get a clue regarding what's best for a particular item I'm crafting. Do I just have to experiment? Do I just have to look for overall quality? Or are certain items better made with one specific material? Also, is there a guide that tells the best materials for every crafted item?
The crafting process seems so overwhelming to me at this stage, and I am not wealthy enough to really experiment the heck out of each item I produce (my other jobs are all entertainment-related, so I'm all-but destitute, lol). Is it really that overwhelming, or do I just need to know a few tricks of the trade?

There seems to be really two main points you should be looking for in DE resources. Conductivity (especially in Copper but also in steel now) and overall quality and these items are mostly necessary to make real good modules such as the combat modules etc.. Stuff like storage modules you can use the worst stuff you have and it won't matter. A level 6 storage module is a level 6 storage module regardless of quality. Of the new explosive modules need high OQ Tolium reactive gas so again, conductivity and OQ. Look at the schematic your using it generally says 50/50 conductivity and OQ.
