Well i have been trying to think of a good way to implament combat droids heres a ill toss out there.

Combat droids, This Idea would work as the following, You make a Beginer Droid with a lvl of 1, the more you use it the more

your droid will lvl up. when the droid hits a certen lvl it opens up a Upgrade slot. When this happens you take your droid to a DE and

tell them you want to upgrade your droid. Say you started out with a R3 combat droid well maybe you can upgrade to a R2 one. the

higher the lvl the more things you can upgrade with. say your droid hits lvl 100, then you can upgrade to a droiddeka and so on (off

corse there will be Alot more model in between them) . the higher up the model the better guns you canplace in it and armor and so on.

I think it would work well it would bring Alot more bussiness for DE since when to droids lvl up youll want to go out and buy new gear or em.

While its probably the most natural/organic system I've heard, its been tossed out there before but got shot down by the devs due to it granting free combat skills to players (free being combat skills without any skillpoint cost).

If you really care about reading comfort, run your posts through a spell checker and stop usingreturns halfway a sentence. As for the idea itself, I like it.

yea. i really like it and when i typed it in in the forums it didnt cut the word off. MMM but about the free combat thing, i was going to but in that would would be a DE only droid but that wouldnt make money. maybe if they implament a lvl system that would work better, you and your droid would have to be with in a 5 lvl range, withen your char

As a non-DE, I think that this is a pretty cool idea, and would add considerable content to the game.

And if the devs have a problem with it not costing skill points, perhaps make DE a requirement to handle droids beyond a certain level.

No.

DE's should not get certs for higher level droids. We're a crafting profession, not a combat profession. We can't gain 2 roles for the price of one. How would that be fair to other professions?

This is what most non-DE's (and some new DE's) don't seem to get. We are a crafting profession. We are unique in the sense that we are supposed to cater to crafters AND combat professions. No other profession can really say that.

And c'mon...for the most part IRL, engineers are not fighters. They make the toys for the fighters.

heres a simplified question to a simplified conclusion:

How about a combat engineer?

(im not sugesthing DC, butinstead an overall elite crafting profession that can use his skills offensively, or defensively (make buffs for items)

how about making the droids require certs? like the new armor cert system. that would work i guess. i like the idea. the combat droids that are out there are a joke... i still have one though, because i think droids should be a part of SWG

The reason certs have been shot down time and time again is that no one wants to give up part of their profession for something that doesn't fit. For example, a pistoleer becomes a pistoleer because they want to shoot pistols, not handle pets. If you include certs in their tree for combat droids, that essentially takes the place of some of their other combat abilities (they must end up the same relative strength one way or the other, so without the droid they'd have better/stronger pistol abilities). Same goes for SL, CH, and all the other professions that DE's have approached. Same deal goes for non-combat professions, only its a bit less clear what they'd have to give up. If you cert non combat professions for combat droids (take DE's for example), then they immediately become a hybrid profession. This leaves two alternatives, up the skill point cost (not only do I doubt that would fly with the devs, but I'd imagine a lot of DE's would be against it as well) or give up part of our crafting to "make room" for the combat abilities, becoming a watered down version of each (less than half the ability of a real combat profession and half the ability of any other crafting profession).
