Thread: Question Jenden should ask Devs.......
- Where do YOU see the Droid Engineer profession going?
- Why should anyone BE a Droid Engineer?
- What contribution to SWG do YOU see Droid Engineers making?
- What makes Droid Engineers important to SWG?
OnceI think we get these answers from the Devs, then many of us can make an intelligent decision as to whether we want to remain Droid Engineers.....many hold onto a dream that things will only get better......Ive been DE long enough to know that things have only gotten worse.
I held hope out that we would be INTEGRAL in the expansion....once again....I feel let down. I dont know how much more of this continual disappointment i can take.
Once we hear from the Devs, what they see the profession providing, and it's importance to SWG, then I think many of us will be in a better position to decide whether to abandon ship.......or go down with the ship. Im a breath away from jumping.

But see, Jenden, that's just falling prey to the vicious "what do YOU want?" cycle.
We've spent the better part of two years coming up with concepts that cover all areas of interest as DE's, only to be either ignored or told "no free checkers".
I don't see wasting OUR time trying to come up with our own answers again. We need parameters to work within, not yet another round of blue-sky "wouldn't it be nice".
That said, I don't think we can expect much development any more. I don't think any crafting profession will. It's clear that new items added to the game are going in the direction of NPC-made. I have a feeling we'll see a reduction of skill points soon, much like Politician and ID professions, and like I assume Merchant is just about to get.
It's all about making things as easy as possible for the combat players, everyone else is being told "be happy with what you've got or we just might take it away".

This may be the direction things seem to be heading in... but that doesn't mean I'm not gonna fight it with everything I've got. But really I've needed to get a good measure on where the DE community stands now as its been a while since we really did that (not talking about issues, talking about direction they'd like to see the profession headed).

Jenden, here is the question that I feel needs asked.
"When adding new content for everybody to use, why don't you add it in a manner that helps the crafting professions that need it?"
If you are designing a system or feature such as cybernetics from the ground up, why don't you do it right? Why make it a quest thing that nobody profits from, give the DE's a bone. Cybernetics are now obviously a new toy for combatents to play with, why are crafters excluded?

As I see it, because we're not "combatants!" lol! this is a combat upgrade! nothing to do with crafting i guess.... the dev's just can't seem to think past what their one objective is. They all need to take a week of programming off, play the game, and develop a better sense of the "big picture" that is SWG. I see them all walking around the office with blinders on.

Zorkk, the kicker is that it ISN'T the combat upgrade. Cybernetics are being released with the expansion, not the CU. Cyberneticsare something we as DEs have been asking for a long time about, now it gets put in game and we don't have anything to do with it.
My point is simply that we've been telling them what "we want" for two years. Unfortunately, the bulk of those requests have gone unanswered.
It's time for them to tell us what we can have. Why frustrate ourselves otherwise?
It's such a red herring - because as soon as we start asking ourselves what we want we get into big time-consuming yet ultimately irrelevant debates like the recent decay discussions. Some people want decay, some don't. Who gives a crap what "we want" if the Dev's aren't even thinking about the idea?
That's why they need to start being up front and telling us where we stand. And, in everything but posting a "decline of the support and crafting professions design document" they've told us where they intend crafting, medic, and entertainer professions to go.
I see a reduction of skill points in our future, and maybe a new module when it suits the combat professions.
So I totally agree with the original poster - the Devs (when they get around to giving us attention again someday) need to tell us what to expect and then we can react. Reacting without input from them has proven inefficent at best.
