Thread: Dropping DE with the expansion

DE has been such a bust for me. Once everyone bought the new droids they lost interest. For one thing, they are weak and rather useless in fights. The trap and harvesting droids are more complicated than worth the trouble. The merchant droids...well I refuse to make the spamming pain in the rears...just as I predicted. Only the crafting droids sell and that is seldom since there are so many DEs.

NOW if they gave us FIGHTING DROIDS....I mean ones like when the game first went live...I would keep DE and love it. EVEN if those droids were just for DEs. The darn CHs have their super pets to fight for them...why can't we?

I DO also believe that the pets DEs and CHs can make and be used for players should be level 29...would go a long way to help our profession and put some fun back into this game with some realism as far as the Star WArs movie went.

GIVE DEs SOME NICE FIGHTING DROIDS that equal what the CHs can do.

While I agree with your sentiment, I'd suggest holding off for a while to see how the CU shakes out. Things are changing.

Once we have the opportunity to test bodyguard droids in the CU, you may get your wish. With no Armor for crafters, and major changes to HAM and damage, I think we stand to gain, not lose.

Not to mention if we get to make the cybernetics with the new expansion...

The reason why we don't have big time droids to fight for us the way CH's have pets is the fact that we're a crafting profession, not a combat profession. Now if you give us the only certs to be able to use these droids, you make the DE profession way too self sufficient, because we can make our own weapons that only we can use. Comparing us to CH is comparing apples and oranges. The better comparison would be something like Weaponsmith. Weaponsmith's can't use their own weapons. Giving us powerful droids only we could use would be overpowering for us.

I DO also believe that the pets DEs and CHs can make and be used for players should be level 29...would go a long way to help our profession and put some fun back into this game with some realism as far as the Star WArs movie went.
Well, Creature Handlers don't really make pets, Bio-Engineers do. Creature Handlers go out hunting for pets and tame babies. And I dunno if I agree with the whole level 29 for everybody sentiment, because those are some pretty good creatures right there. That's pretty much what I can use right now as a 3213 CH (actually 32), and I don't think it'd be fair that anybody can use a creature the level that I've had to work hard to get.

GIVE DEs SOME NICE FIGHTING DROIDS that equal what the CHs can do.
Again, CH's are a combat profession, so they deserve the powerful pets. We're a crafting profession, completely different from that of CH.

B.S. Unless I totally don't get it, CH's tame baby Rancors, not BE's... If you think a decked probot is equal to a any rancor... I am missing something... Add I get one droid out and 5 in my pad... Or yeah, so equal... Now, if you relly think we should be equal to BE's and not CH's, fine, I will drop Rifles and you can give me a cobat droid profestion... Just a thought...

Yes, CHs use their scout training to hunt and tame wild animals, all skills they paid points for. The more points they pay the better they are at it.

DEs as a crafting profession, paid points to learn the deatils designs and construction of droids of all types. We cannot have those points "spent twice" and also grant the ability to control high powered, heavy combat capable droids.

BE use their training to craft pets specific to needs, or of more power than those in the wild, but they do not also gain the ability to control and teach them.

Its not BS, its an inherent balance, and its something we've had to fight long and hard to come to grips with. The Droid Handler's worth as a separate profession has been debated here ad nauseum, and no good answer has been reached.

Technically our current combat droids are more powerfull than the ones at launch. The difference is that everyone else has grown that much more powerful over the months.

I predict that the combat droids will be a huge sale once CU happens.

Heck yeah. Because all the uber CL10 pets will be nerfed.

Well not only that but you can't just grab the best armor and weapons now. Stuff at lower levels hurts.

ch is not a very good combat profession, if you can evencall themthat.not that it matters, doc is now a combat profession isnt that something? maybe de can become a combat profession and get to use armor migration. also be seems to get armor migration as well making them a combat profession?

and for the record, weaponsmiths can use everything they make, just not as effective as possible.

make up your mind if you're talking pre or post CU and then we can talk.

  • Pre CU CH was gimpy, but we dont know about post CU, they look to be far more formidable now.

  • Doc is now also no longer a crafting profession in any way shape or form. They get armor because they are expected to need it in the field.

  • BE too is a scout/medic based profession and expected to be in the field close to dangerous creatures.

  • Migration? you mean mitigation? The armor certs are given for a reason, and there is no reason to give a pure crafting profession armor.

  • For the record, post CU you can't equip a single item you're not certified for. Weaponsmiths included.

All these half accurate profession descriptions you bring up to try to strengthen your case don't work. They set the dividing line clearly long ago for DE. We are crafters, and crafters we remain. The other profession shifts you see in the CU embody needed changes in role, and needed shift of power to maintain balance. The closest thing to a major revision in the CU is Smuggler, and that is only because they had nothing much to begin with. We get plenty for our points, and we're not about to get more/new/different. Sorry.
