Thread: Combat Modules in the Skill Tree

What's your best guess as to where in the DE Skill Tree, Combat Modules will fall?

Master DE only?

Construction? (with multiple types of "weapons"?)

Production? (with multiple levels like the storage and medical units?)

From what TH said (and based upon his apparent lack of understanding of the DE profession) I expect to see a level 1-6 combat module along the lines of the others. Just like the rest, no one will use anything less than a level 3 and two experimented 3s of two 4s will equal a level 6. A level 6 will be equal to the current combat capabilities of the existing probot.

I seriously doubt that the top end combat module would be equal to a current probot. That's speculation. I suspect an experimented 3 will be in line with a current probot and they will get better from there (depending on the resources used of course).

Making the combat modules crappier than what is currently available in a probot would just drive all sorts of hate driven posts after patch. I am hoping they see that this is thier chance to semi redeem themselves within the DE community. By making the top of the line, fully experimented lvl 6 combat module a 70-80 damage rating would be yet another thing to get everyone pissed off all over again. I'm not saying they are going to give us a mega damage droid, but maybe 120 or 130 top end sure would be a lot nicer than we got now.

If so, you think the level 1-6 modules will fall into Production tree?

Oh I see where this is going.

I remember a few months back people were complaining about "dabblers" being able to use the high end creatures and not having to use those skill points. If SoE has a braincell in their heads they will see this and not just have a bunch of 0/4/0/4 DEs running around.

If you are interested in building Combat droids, either go master or don't go at all.

My guess would be that they end up spread around across at least 2 of the trees like the Crafting Stations. That way you'd need at least 4404 to be able to build all possible combat droids and modules.

im not a de, but as far as the one lvl 6 combat mod being equal to the current probot, that sounds about right cause you can stack up to 6 of them into what will be the best combat droid... sounds decent to me.

Pikeman : The only class that couldn't hit the ground if they dropped their weapon.
Pikeman : Doing massive damage; to the air surrounding our target.
Pikeman : You're dead meat, unless you happen to be standing in front of us.
Pikeman : Because the devs were one profession short.
DEVs : Pikeman? Thats a class?

Nope, they'll be capped at CL10 (current probot level) and will function like the current storage, etc. modules. You have to remember that SOE considers CL10 to basically be worthless in combat. Thatis why they allow anyone to have them without certs. They are NOT going to allow any of these new modules to either stack or by themselves exceed the current probot stats. While I would like to see them do something creative with them (like requiring rare metals or gemstones, for instance) I'm afraid that that's really expecting too much out of the team that we have working on this. Take a look at the other level 1-6 modules and you'll more than likely see what the resources are for the "combat modules".

Trust me...we're going to have a lot of disappointed customers. When you think about a "droid invasion" it calls to mind images of "uber" combat droids invading SWG. They are once again using the draw of droids to pull people into this game and leaving us to clean up after them. Just take a look at how much other forum members are misunderstanding what this "invasion" encompases and then imagine what it looks like from outside the game. Spend some time looking at this site without logging in and see what impression they are giving non-players.

Don't get me wrong, by this point, I could take or leave combat droids. I don't think we will see anything really useful for quite some time in the combat department. We will certainly never see droidekas or IG-88s without a DH/DC profession. I'm ok with that, but it makes me angry that they are hyping this "droid invasion" and leaving us to deal with the angry customers who are looking for a real "invasion".

it would be nice if the devs would clarify, but i think jumping on the Level1-6 combat module isa bit premature. Remember the combat modules are a new platform for the new DH droids. When he says 6 modules of 100% will make the best droid, thats probably true, for the highest level DH droid. I imagine our current little guys will only be able to use 1 module. Even if TH does makemistakes, those patch notes were reviewed by other people before posting.

Well to tell the truth, you sort of caught me. Although I AM a Master DE on Radiant, I am slowly grinding one up on Test Center as well, hoping to get a handle on the whole combat module thing before it goes live.

With this in mind, I was hoping to finish off Blueprints and then take another tree that would allow me to work with the new modules. There's no way I can make MDE before patch 7 hits TC, so I was wondering what you all had heard about where in the skill tree they may be placed....if not at Master.

I dont have time to "play" on TC, so I just cant spend much time there grinding up. Its going slow harvesting by hand, and I tried to contact our Correspondant on Tatooine, with no reply. So no help there. I'm on my own.

So you are the person that sent me that E-mail in game. I was in the process of reading it, when I had a display error with my video card that resulted in me deleting the E-mail before I was finished reading it.

I'm going to try and get some info out of TH when he gets back.

I am just a "bit" confused...

If we're to be permited to stack up to six combat modules in a droid... for example.. a Probot... Just where in Hell are they gonna go?

Last time I looked, we had the capability to put in two NON-Cluster modules and two Armor/Defensive modules.

Are we to gain a new type of "clustering" capabiltiy that has yet to be revealed?

- Account: Master TKA (cancelled)
- Account: Master Doctor (cancelled)
- Account: Smuggler (cancelled)
- Account: Master Chef (cancelled)
- Account: Master Droid Engineer (activity suspended pending developments)
Total loss of annual revenue (SOE): ~$715US to ~$900US
- Bad press: Priceless
Should Sony and Lucas Arts be worried? (15000 users * 5 accts = ~$13MIL in potential lost gross annual revenue) If I were the CEO for either LA or SOE, I would certainly be worried.

This is where an ounce of explaination would save pounds of manure (in useless postings while we speculate).

On one hand, we only have one droid capable of carrying six modules - the R3. A few people say, "He said combat droids, jacka@@", but the whole point of this is to give combat capability to our other droids.

Drashk posted that we should stock up on Probot deeds and chasis - I am taking this to mean the Probot schematic is being redesigned. I assume it will indeed be able to hold six COMBAT modules - I think there will be a new type of slot that only takes combat modules (preventing you from stacking it with, say, crafting stations instead) on combat droids. I assume a general slot will take a regular module or a combat module, and of course only combat slots take combat modules.

As to the final stats, the Probots were already "rebalanced" a couple of patches ago to bring them up to level 10 - I think making them is just going to get more complicated while the final droid (and it's stats) will remain the same.
