I think it would be nice if a control device would come up in a window that you could keep up while the droid/pet is out. You could then program all commands, names, open storage, etc... in this window. It seems fine to speak your commnads to a creature pet, but for a droid these are programming issues and /tellpet is just one more step. Would add a bit of interactive content as if you were actually controlling your droid with a remote device.

Major problem is Droids are considered pets it seems (ie uses the current pet mechanics). So if "Tame" gets changed to say "Activate" you will have all the CHs and BEs screaming change it to "Tame"again.

Droids really should be seperate from Pets but still be simular in some of their functions. Probably the main reason why so many of the droid problems/quirks are still there is because droids work off the petmechanics and not their own. Hopefully with Publish 7/8/etc, Droids will gettheir own mechanics then use the current pets mechanics.

Well, I'd rather /say "datapad" then have to find my remote control device in a laggy Coronet starport bazaar...

no I just mean a window or such like the combat queue that pops up when you call your droid and stays active while your droid is out. Even the buttons you click on the "control device" could bemacros for /say datapad that would be fine. Or it could simply be a programming device that you crafted that you could use on all droids. Therefore, a non DE would have to find a DE to reprogram their droid. this would be a nice novice DE function to earn money and would encourage droid customization as well. I mean where do non DEs get the skills to reprogram droids. You cant retrain your pet without a CH.

They can already manipulate this between the different pets, they have just been slow in doing so. They literally copied/pasted the underlying systems between "creatures", but simply changing the text that reads on the radial menu is within current technical means. I can't remember what they changed it on already - but I know they have fixed at least one of those.

You may find thisamusing or of note : if you have a droid with a repair module in your datapad, click on "list commands" - "repair" is listed as "do trick one". Sort of gives you perspective on the situation.

IMO, droid naming should be accomplished by having a "Name" option under the Program menu. A droid's name should be easily programmed, as they are not semi-intelligent animals that require repitition in order to comprehend names or commands.

Agreee completely.

Same here, I just thought a droid designator would be... cool. I got the idea from the one Anakin used to name Threepioin the novelization of Episode 1.

It's my opinion we need to be able to craft a Droid Designator, a device that would allow the easy naming of droids. I get tired of seeing "an R2 unit" and "an R3 unit" everywhere, not to mention being able to name protocols, LE repair droids, and surgicals. Heck, it doesn't even need to be a DE-specific device. Just click the droid, his use on the designator, and enter the name you wish.

While I'm at it, I also wish you could program commands for "Storage" and "Datapad" which could open the droid's item storage and datapad without having to click the droid.

Seems to me both of these would not be too difficult to add.

Thoughts?

But the idea of having the storage and data open up on command is a good one.

There's another idea... make the designator so that you can put in all the commands all at once along with naming.
