Thread: allow DE to craft a endo-skeleton shell for BE's to craft into an ARMORED pet!!!!

Ok, so how to resolve the whole combat droid deal? Here is an idea

Why not have the DE's (crafting profession IMHO) create an endo skeleton of a droid shell this craftable shell would then be taken to a BE (Bio-Engineer) which would then place it in a craftable template that would allow for an "ARMORED" pet for CH (Creature Handlers) to use and if DL (Difficulty Level) was <=10 then ALL professions can use.

This would resolve (IMHO) the need for a "Droid handler" by using existing profession CH and allowing the DE and BE to have even more need's for a customer base and still maintain the DE's as a crafting profession.

So what do you guys think?

I think you've seen the Terminator movies too many times.

Luke's arm, Darth Vader, Lando's assistant(sorry forgot his name) and the entire Techno-Union are four examples off the top of my head.

I actually liked AO's implants and think that would work nicely in SWG as a new profession........ We could eventually become part human part droid in the long run

I think this idea is really cool! Imagine a permanent (but weak) buff of sorts in the form of bionic implants. They could be manufactured exclusively by droid engineers since DEs produce such complex mechanical parts anyway. These bionic parts can also be surgically grafted into creatures.

Notice the word surgical. Only surgeons or droids would be able to graft these mechanical enhancements into beings and creatures. Just like the surgical droid which did Luke's arm.

The catch would be that these permanent buffs incur damage through use or fighting. They should behave exactly like weapons, incurring damage with every use. (like Luke's hand getting shot at) If they are badly damaged, your "buff" is reduced. If they are damaged beyond repair, you lose the buff completely. Only a droid with a repair module built in can repair the part. Or to balance it off even further, only hospitals equiped with the right tools can heal the implants at a cost.

This sounds like a really cool idea that would allow for cross profession cooperation, and it is consistant with the Star Wars movies and stories.

Great Idea!

True, its a great idea, but...

It would be handed over to Bio-Engineer on a silver platter by the devs because this is "technically" creating cybernetic components that could be grafted onto living tissue...not droid parts. And to add insult to injury, it would probably require a Master Doctor/Surgeon (with the assistance of a Surgical Droid) to actually attach said components. If you remember, it was a 2-1B droid that attached Luke's artificial hand, not a Droid Engineer.

No, the creation of implants won't be handed to Bio engineers but Droid Engineers. Here is why:

1) Bio engineers deal with genetics. They make creatures and clothing components. They do not make complex mechanical components.

2) Only Droid engineers can make complex mechanic parts (such as arms, legs or torso) which behave like people (Protocol, Surgical, LE Repair all have humanoid characteristics, they have arms and such)

3) Anakin Skywalker was a droid engineer. He may have possibly created his own Darth Vadarsuit to sustain himself and overcomethe weaknesses of his battered body(we shall see once Ep 3 starts showing!).

It is true that grafting will be handled by surgeons or surgical droids. Of course droid engineers can't graft ontp living tissue! But they are definately qualified enough to build the cybernetic parts. Possibly only surgeons with some novice droid engineer skills cangraft implants. (surgeons need to have some understanding of droid engineering in order to properly place implants into a person). Well, I don't mind a surgeon grafting parts, as long as he buys them from ME!!

Well, first off one of the problems would be actually defining a function for cybernetic parts, but aside from that I think it would actually be a case for 3 professions to be needed

1: Droid Engineer - Builds the actual mechanical/electronic parts and produces an undifferientiated part.

2: Bio Engineer- Builds the interface system, would require a biosample from the recipient, and then combines this with the part from a droid Engineer to provide a part specificly for 1 player

3: A Master Doctor/Surgeon - Actually attatches the bionics

One other thing to worry about would be how to keep bionics in line with Star Wars (IE Cybernetics being rare, and just about nobody being fully cyborged)
