All the combat and fighting has finally got to me, so I have decided to pick up an interesting non-combat class.
I want to become a droid engineer and have started looking at different schematics and stuff. But I have a couple questions:
What resources should I start collecting? I've noticed Link-Steel, Duralloy, fiberplast, and chemical. Any recommendations on what I should start harvesting from day one?
Also, what stats are important for us on the resources?
Any other help would be appreciated...

Resources you'll need from day one are Steel, Fiberplast, Copper or Aluminum, and Extrusive Ore. Take a look at swgcraft.com to see the specific named resources you'll need as you go up the tree. Collect the named resources if you see them spawn, it might take a while for them to spawn again.
As far as resource quality goes, OQ and Cond. are the major stats to worry about. Again, take a look at swgcraft.com, because some schematics rely on different qualities.
Good luck...

To ammend what Duncje has said, here are the important stats on those resources:
Most components - Over Quality and Conductivity
Frames and Final Assembly - Over Quality, Shock Resistance, and Unit Toughness
Although currently most experimentation is broken or has litte effect. That's SUPPOSE to be fixed soon. We will have to wait and see. What you should use good materials for and experiment as high as you can is the crafting modules. Suppose to actually make a difference on those in way of reducing the failure rate when people use the droid to craft. I've actually had better luck crafting with my droid than crafting with my 99% effectiveness private weapon/droid/general crafting station. Crafting in a player city that has the research option set too. Reduces experimentation failures.

if you dont have extrusive ore, get some when it hits next it can be squirly. as for rares: liduim extrusive, dioxis inert gas and duralloy steel. check swgcraft's droid schems for all the level 6 module parts those are the real rares....oh and on occation ditanium steel for c3p0's. lets see what else, get a small house/med 2 lot house, buy your power or run a fusion and run 3 heavy chem harvs on fiber and 5 heavy mineral harvs on steel. make 400 or so mouse droids and then get to adv droid frames and make those until....master DE. done.
