The same way you got to Eng. 4. You need General Crafting XP, so really nothing changes until you get to DE.

That is right, and if the original poster doesn't know already, crafting the personal harvesters gives some of the best generic crafting xp.

I took smuggler up before i went to DE, and crafting molecular clamps can get you to engineering 4 in about 2 hours...

bah, just get a bunch of metal and make chemical surveyors...eng IV to novice DE in like 25 minutes if that...just use the crafting macro. Grinding all of artisan is like an hour affair other than survey just using chemical surveyors...and fairly easy clicking.

Or you could just bite the bullet, master Artisan now, and make a few vehicles to get you up to Novice DE.
Unless you have a guild supporting you with MA parts, a very good friend, or are only looking to make a few droids, you will need Master Artisan.

I'll agree with Audio.
If you're only going through Engineering: make harv's.
If you're going to Master Artisan: Do so, then make a few vehicles.
You'll use more Master Artisan components than you think.
If you're serious about DE, you'll need MA.
