I've seen a lot of debate about what DE's are and how broken the profession is etc. The newest thing is the droid handler, which when I think about it, seems rather silly. I need a skill to press a button and launch a droid invasion army? One of my biggest problems is with the idea of combat droids, which people say is more Star Warsy. It is and it isn't. Having every person I see running around with a battle droid isn't any better to me than everyone running around with a graul. Droids in Star Wars, espeically this time frame, post Trade Federation, are more about utility than about combat. The Empire, being more into machines, does employ a few droids with seemingly some combat abilities, but the droids you see are as diverse in appearance and function as the many alien races.

Instead of a droid handler profession. I'd rather see each profession or group of professions get certs for various droids if it came down to trying to limit who could use what.

Crafting Droids:

The artisan profession has droids that have crafting stations in them, but there is so much more that can be done here. A survey droid that runs around andtakes a survey of a specific programmed mineral and finds the highest concentration. (Migth be hard to code, but very useful)Peope have been clamoring for droids that help interface with factories and harvesters. I"d love to load maintence and power into a droid and let it be my interface to my harvester.

Droids that could help in the crafting of items. Droids that would reduce the crit failure chances or help me in the process in other ways.

Medical Droids :

I'd love to see droids that actually heal.I coudl load one full of meds and it could healwounds for me, while I deal with other things or other patients in the area. Maybe a droid that would heal damageona battlefield.

Entertainment droids:

Other than droids that have chips that mightactually be able to perform, I can't think of a lot of uses that an entertainer would use in a droid.

Combat Profs.

I'd love to have a droid that would repair my armor and weapons.I hate hunting down weaponcrafters and armorsmiths to fix my armor and frankly most don't like to be bothered. What if a droid got the same repair bonuses so it could fix my stuff.

Scout.

What about a droid that actually gathered my hides and stuff for me. I could program it to pick up all the hides from my dead monsters and it would gather them up and put them in its storage compartments. I'm a master scout and I don't need to get xp anyway.

In the vein of combat droids, I could have a droid that will shoot off traps on creatures or something along those lines.

Smugglers

Well droids are super with computer systems. They can gain info or slice into security locks or any number of things. To me this is what R2-D2 does all the time!

Bounty Hunters

Well they have their tracking droids, what more can you want other than one of those great repair droids.

Repair Droids.

A repair droidshould repair other droids too. My droid get blown up, one of these can fix it upalmost good as new.

Faction Droids

I'd see some droids maybe even with combat abilities used by the Empire. The rebellion relied on people rather than machines. While the Empire used the probots to search planatary systems, the Rebellion used Long Probe Y-wings flown by pilots to do the same functions. The early Dark Troopers looked more like terminators than the more cyborg suits of the later models.

I'm sure there can be many other ideas for droids, but seeing a diverse amount of droids doing jobs that people actually need, that is what a droid's rolein Star Wars is.
