Thread: in DE worth the effort?

I recently reopened my account and began to play on another server. So I'm starting from scratch again. I think of becoming amaster crafter because I always liked crafting in other MMORPGs. The profession I'd select because of the "coolness" factor would be DE.

But from what I've seen in this forum, I fear that all those holo-grinders minimize the possible customers to zero.

So my questions are:

1.) Would you select DE or another elite crafter profession? (including smugglers)?

2.) Is the combination master artisan/droid engineer/merchant suitable to come to a financially profitable level?

I wouldn't give up DE for anything. Despite the various bugs it is still one of the most interesting and diverse professions. All a weaponsmith/armorsmith gets to do is make crates upon crates of the same guns, its high profit but redundant and low interest. DE's on the other hand get (assuming you run a custom business) a wide variety of orders, each one a little different from the next. We are very profitable, assuming you want to put some work in it and build up a good customer base.

Hologrinders certainly do NOT lower our customers to zero. Even with the reduced schedule I'm on lately I'm making plenty of sales.

MOST hologrinders haven't the time, patience, temperment or desire to go through all the massive trouble of creating the better droids. Not to mention that they haven't spent months and months gathering the interesting and rare materials needed for many of our items.

If you love droids, then DE may well be worth the effort. It's probably a good idea to have some anesthetic for your backside, because we often get manipulator arms shoved up there by the dev team, but if you can grit your teeth and smile through it, droids are pretty cool.

The one thing you do have to watch out for with holo-grinders is misinformation. I've seen quite a few throw together some droid (usually LE repair droids since they don't require any MA parts) and claim that it does this or that, which leaves me with severly pissed off customers (pissed at DE's in general). Its the whole stereotype thing, but when someone gets screwed on their first droid, there's a good chance they won't get another one.

It's worth it completely mate. Hologrinders have no affect on the profession at all, and in fact have increased sales! More and more people buy crafting station droids (especially R3 all-in-wonders) because they will need crafting stations on their road, and droids make a perfect choice because it lets them grind where they are comfortable, rather than in some lonely room.

And of course there's fringe benefits. Depending on the server you'll find organizations in place that actually help DEs progress and move on. Kind of like AA! And people are always nice to DEs as there are so few. Some say it's pity, but i know it's really respect

But on a more serious note, wear a master DE tag and you'll never be able to run through Coronet without getting messages. It's a wonderful experience, if you like interacting with people that is.
