The problem that the devs are having with all of this is that these new droids are going to cause a big shift in combat balance in the game... bad news... NO MATTER WHAT, if you add combat droids to the game, things will become unbalanced. If they (combat droids) need to be added, combat is going to change... there is no avoiding it. Heh... like from the beginning... I still vote no to combat droids at all... the single probot we have now is just fine, it only needs a better HAM is all.
My only idea for getting these combat droids into the game without much balance change is this...
Make droids a resource DISASTER. The should have to be armed by the user. This means buying the weapons used by the droids (not regular weapons, but almost temporary weapons that are not long lasting). Maybe not supplying weapons all the time, but at least ammo. Also, make fixing a droid cost money, or something on the lines of that... just like a garage for vehicles. The big negative between droids, and pets is this... PETS WILL ALWAYS WORK, DROIDS RUN OUT OF POWER AND THEY STOP. That factor it self, I believe, is being ignored through all of this, but that's besides the point.
Make droids high-maintenance, basically. Let them be as strong as creatures, but just harder to upkeep. This will stop people from using their powerful droids all the time, and only use them when they HAVE to. I think that's the solution to the problem there.

Become unbalanced?!? This game was never balanced. And rightly SHOULD NOT EVER be balanced.
This is a war in this game. There will be those who are weak, and in turn those who are powerful.
My DE/Pistoleer can by NO MEANS take on a TKA master or Commando or BH. What difference does it make if I get my butt whooped by a commando or by a commando with a droid? I still will get my butt whooped.

I'm just going off of what the Devs are most concerned about...
Any feedback on my idea?

The way it's going at the moment.. if I have to spend all my skillpoints to have less functionality than CH (as in, MDE + MDM, just to be able to get my own pets like a CH).. then screw droids.. I'm all for "sticking to the canon/feel of SWU" but I am not about to pay $X a month to not have fun.
So, I guess I'm saying that I don't agree with anyone who thinks that a Droideka should be less powerfull than a greater sludge panther, or that droids should be more of a pain in the creature-like-a-donkey to use than a pet..
Droids are self-sufficent, intelligent machines.. just look at IG-88 for example from the movie.

I must say, even though I've been planning on being a DE from way before launch, and have kept this profession my priority in the game ever since, like in the beginning, I still don't support this whole combat droid thing... It is causing WAY too much trouble for such an insignificant thing that will likely not even be popular when it does come about. I know it must suck for the developers, putting all this work into these combat droids and such, but please... SCRAP THE IDEA. Why not try and do something different? Continue with the original idea of droids... Give us pets that do things BESIDES fight. Why not just build off of the utility droids we have now? Make the changes to make them useful, and the community would still be happy.
THE GAME NEEDS UTILITY DROIDS. THE GAME DOES NOT NEED COMBAT DROIDS.
Let's just hope that there is a space-craft profession by the time the DE goes to hell... maybe I can find comfort somewhere else.

back to ur idea. its a good one but it cant work because if u creat a new player he will instantly be able to use highlv droids, cause he has all skillpoints free. instead of having to save skillpoints u could also spent them in a DH or the DE profession and have the same result. btw 110cl droids will never appear.

Yes, technically, a new player WOULD be able to use the droid, but it's HIGHLY unlikely that they could. They could not afford to buy it, first off, and if they could, they could not afford to keep in armed all the time, nor keep it maintained, and powered. That's the genious (at least I think) in my idea. Everyone CAN use them, but won't always use them, which is the problem that the devs are trying to solve.
And apout the skillpoints that you mentioned, I said nothing about costing skill points in my idea, because no skill points are required in my idea.
110cl droids? I never said anything about any creature levels... that's up to the devs to decide.

I don't think game balance is an issue if they strive to make droids (from a power standpoint) parallel to creatures. It could effectively be the same line, but with droids instead of pets. I don't see it changing the balance that much.
I like your 'maintenance idea', but i believe the best thing for de's (which i am not) is to make droids (and pets for that matter) permakill. My best swg experience was when i lost my 70000 credit probot (that was a lot of $ the first weeks of the game) on dantooine. My heart pounded as it fought over top of my unconsciuos body, then it blew up. I was crushed. But that's what role playing is all about. Pets and Droids thata don't die are kind of a joke.
