i've seen some people that specialize in specific tiers of droid construction.
I myself specialize in droids that aren't the best, but i create a story and a nickname for each one that i make and how it came to be in my shop. (kind of an rp thing).
What do you do to lure in your customer base?

Selection is key. Sell multiple droids that do the same thing that range in price. Example: R4, R2, Surgical, and Protocol Medical Bots. My prices range from 20k - 40k on these things and they all do the same thing, with the exception of the Surgical not being able to hold item storage units.
You will always get people (like me) that want the pricey ones even though the cheap ones are the same.
Also, advertise on your servers trade forums, even on the regular forums. Don't list prices or you'll be ripped a part by flames
But advertising is key. My sales always double for a few days after I advertise

Stats, stats, stats, stats, stats, stats, stats, and more stats. There is an amazing diffeance in the sales between the droid deeds that I just left the deault information on,and the ones where I translated the cryptic DE ratings into actual game values. I would say a 10 to 1 ratio at least. You just have to make your product as user friendly and possible. I make 70% of my droids by hand.....er non-factory . It does add a personal touch to them. Also make your vendor as much as a one-stop-droid-shop as possible. If you sell ISD's, make sure you sell crates of survey tools. Batteries and stim-packs are a no-brainer it would seem, but I continuosly see vendors with 4 or 5 droid types, and nothing else. Don't forget your new, poor players. I keep a MSE with every crafting station in stock, as well as ones with storage and crafting.
When I advertise my droids, I always tell what/or how much the droid will benifit the customer. Like harvester ratings; I translate them into actual percentage increases and then place that info in my barker droid, on the deeds themselves, and in Trade forum threads where Docs are advertising for Xcpu for this or that type of meet. I di that for the first time a little while ago, and I sold 15 harvest droids in one week. Thats pretty good for me.
Just make it a point to know everything you can about your craft, the rest will work itself out.

Advertise with BLL barker.
I do mainly BH droids, boom droids, battery, custom kit and medic droids.
I also try to sell a wide variety of entertainer droid (different model, different combo of visual effect/playback modules...)
I think one of my main speciality is to do different model.
For exemple even for a basic medic droid with the usual combo Crafting/storage/medic module, I do LE, R2, and R4.
And I think of making some BLL Medic.
The idea is to have a wide range of price. From cheap to expensive, with about the same function. And not focus only on Adv R3 stuffed with everything.
Also, on higher end droids I do the final droid by hand, and use a different color each time.
It's a shame it doesn't last more than 20 calls, but customer like that.

I personally specialize in "pre-made" droids. I do custom orders now and then, but by FAR my biggest seller is my vendor full of premade droids.
I've made up model names for every combination of a droid... For example, the simple med module droids are the "MedStudent" model, and the ones with a medical module and a foodcrafting module are the "Doctorate." I try to be as cute and clever as possible with the names and still have it relate to the droid's function.
Also, if you have the room and an available vendor, try keeping a FAQ vendor. Create items (say, level 1 armor modules or something) and name them for the question, and write the answer in the item description. It's a lot of work if you're thorough, because when the sale comes down after a week the item description is erased, but the customers appreciate it. Do your best to explain absolutely everything to them, because they're not droid geeks like us.

I doa bit of everything.
Ready-made on the vendor. Custom stuff.

When I was starting out, it was all about building a clientbase to advertise to later. For that, you have only to go to where the market is...
Afterall, out of sight....out of mind.

bh ,survey droids on vendor rest built to order from adverts and word mouth, stocking is good idea but with several combos of chassis and units i prefere at moment to just build to order, more from waste point of view im pretty well setup to handle most orders there and then when asked, althought other day i did make up some common chassis since was waiting at house.

Detailed information in the "seller's description" block. Any skill requirements to use, what that combat rating equates to in action, etc.
