I've seen some proposed slicing modules for smugglers in the past but usually they end up too powerful orwould just end up being redundant. While letting my mind wander at work today I came up with an idea that I think would be pretty cool and simple. Make a droid module that is certed to Master Smuggler and would allow the smuggler's droid to slice terminals (only terminals, nothing else). You would load laser knives in the droid like stimpacks in the stimpack dispenser module. When you go up to a terminal you could then give your droid the command to slice it. The droid would then slice the terminal at the cost of1 laser knife (vs the 2 it takes a smuggler). Also it would be guarenteed 100% effective WITHOUT clamps. A smuggler using this would still have to wait 2 minutes before a terminal could be sliced again.
Pros
- using only 1 laser knife and no clamp would save smugglers resources to slice people's weapons
- add a Star Warsy feature to droids
Cons
- haven't thought of any yet but hopefully someone else will so I can work on the idea more
As a Master smuggler I can say there's nothing more annoying than slicing a mission terminal only to have someone come up later to have a weapon sliced and running out of clamps. Basically it would just be a convienence item for Master Smugglers.I know quite often I don't even bother slicing terminals when I get mission just because of the hassle of digging out clamps and knives (plus the fear of lossing out on some money since I used up my stock on me, like I mentioned above). Plus I think it would be fun to just give my droid a command and have him roll up to the terminal and slice it

I really like the idea.
R2 does that all the time.
But, what do you think of other people being able to use that function?
Like non smuggler?
Because I don't think alot of people look for smuggler to slice a terminal, and it would be another repeated business for you.
It seem a little overpowered like that,
but maybe a smuggler would have 100% succes chance and a non-smuggler 50% or less.
R2 was able to do it, and was controled by luke, who is not a smuggler, that is for the story part.
And for the game balance, I don't really think it would hurt the smuggler business, but I may be wrong, was only smuggler for a couple of days.

As much as people would probably like this module to work for everyone, the module would be for Smugglers only (as mentioned, thecertfor the module could be put at master smuggler or somewhere else in the tree). Afte a ll,can't give away smuggler skills to someone who hasn't put the work in to the profession. It would be kinda similar to the harvester model when used by a Rangerfrom a productivity standpoint. They don't really get a massive bonus from a fully loaded R3 Advanced from my understanding, they mainly use it for convienence. This module would be a convience for smugglers, they save clamps and use half the knives they normally would. Another thing to note, no experience would be gained when the droid slices a terminal. That would be the trade off for less resources (knives, clamps) being needed.

It's just that I have a fear it'll end up like the stimpack dispencer module.
Or in a less extend barker module.
Look nice, but no one really build them as there are almost no market.
Having the module existing is one thing, find an actual droid with it is another story.
Smugglers don't really loose anything, people don't ask them to slice termianl for them.
But they will win customers.
With a 50% or 33% chance for non smuggler to make it, and wait 2 minutes after a fail and so on.
And the smuggler could gain xp when someone use their knives, like artisan win xp when people use what they build.
Yes, it does give something specific from smugglers to everyone, but it really give also alot more to smuggler too.
And, for the harvester comparison, a 20% increase is alot when meat sell at 175 CPU like some does on my server for the moment.

This sounds like an excellent idea. Too bad the Dev's have already given us, what they consider love, and we won't see anything knew for another year.
