Thread: To be or not to be..
Pro- we finally have some items worth experimenting on. this make my droidbuilding more fun for me.
Con- if you aren't into being at least a little bit of teacher, DE probably isnt for you. People just plain don't know about droids, and you have to teach them at least a little if they want a custom job. This can be a hassle if you aren't up for it, but I thrive on the interaction most of the time. I take pride in making something which is exactly what they want.
very very true what psikobunny just said. This is a very highly social profession because droids have a wide array of customization. Only other profession that may be more socially involving is Tailor and ID. All other crafting professions are limited in variety ofany one product. Just make the best, period, and thats what they'll expect. Droids can be customized to the needs of the user and it can vary widely.
I really wish we had a way to write booklets other than having to post instructions on the information field in vendors or make a million bone armor segment signs.
as for having to deal with the large amount of resources... It is the directeffect of what we alwayswanted for a long time: having experimentation work. Experimentation and hard to aquire resources go hand in hand. It is what makes crafting professions what they are = a mini game within the game itself. It also creates a buffer from long standing die hardDE's and those new to DE.The effortthe DE puts into finding resources has a direct inpact on the quality of his droids. If it wasnt like this, then anyonecould slap two metal bars together and call it a droid. I remember people here complaining Master DE was never required to make the droids that sold the most. Not anymore!
Pro's
It's kinda fun. With the modules now I feel like an actual 'engineer' not just an assembly plant worker like I do with say, architect. I can mix and match and create something cool - Could it be better? Sure - but I am enjoying it a lot at the moment
Low stress. I don't have people screaming at me that they need their droid .0001 faster between shots or doing 10% less ham damage. I don't have to worry about the droids BER not coming out *quite* right and having a 12 BER Heavy droid no-one wants to buy.
Not knocking other professions at all - since we all get what we get from the Devs - but to me droid making is kinda penultimately Star Warsy. Armor and weapons are cool in their own right, houses and furniture fun but droids makes me feel like I'm really a part of the SW universe
Cons:
To me, it's pretty hard to keep up with all the specialist resources required. You'd better be prepared to make a sound investment in the various specific kinds of metals, chemicals and crystals etc. I'm learning to actually love the search for high OQ Tolium reactive as a valid sub-game and I was pretty excited to see a nice spawn of vertex the other day. ![]()
It can be fiddly. The very thing that makes it nifty can make it annoying. I'm not an uber crafter. I likesocial chat and exploring a bit - as well as crafting droids, soI don't have 75 crates of advanced droid brains sitting around. I can't afford it for one, and don't have my resource game (see above) in place to where I can do this. So often folks get pissy when they want what they think is a fairly straightforward little droid and I tell them it will take an hour or two for me to pull everything together. Generally tho, folks are patient. I am reinvesting my profits back into droid materials and componants - so hopefully this will change.
Lots of master artisan required parts. I am a master Artisan but I can see how it would be a pain in the buttocks for anyone who wasn't - costwise and storage wise.
Overall - well worth the grind to master. A lot of fun and a little money to be made. I recommend it heartily
