Thread: As I see the state of the Droid Engineer

Well, Publish 8 is here and it's great. We got a ton of new utility modules (finally!), we got increased droid combat functionality (finally!), and we have a market to sell to (finally!). From here, however, I don't know where the class should go.

As I see it, Droid Engineer is, as it stands, a 'fixed' class. As soon as the bugs on the new modules are fixed, Droid Engineer will be an important part of the game economy; a class with real use. The problems we had were for a large part fixed.

I'm most impressed in this publish by the combat droids. Droids finally fill the combat role I always saw them as occupying: better than a creature for the layman, not as good as one specialized in the taming of exotic beasts. Droids are finally above DL 10, and I'm happy where it is. A droid can take hits, even in PvP, and is a real boon in PvE. With a Probot dealing 178-187 damage (when I make them, at least), they can even deal damage as well as take it!

The only problem with this is, of course, the fact that we still asked for higher combat droids. In my opinion, we don't need them--the high-level creauture market is best left to the Bio-Engineers, and I'm very comfortable occupying the role of supplying bodyguards to the masses. So what do we need in the future?

Allow me to paint my vision:

Droid Engineers, being a 'fixed' class, will obviously recieve less developer time. However, I think it's only fair that Droid Engineers get new droid modules to play with every once in a while, just as other crafting classes see new loot schematics to craft. These 'loot modules' would, I believe, be great bonuses, and a great way to get some droids feeling unique rather than just automatons from a factory (though quite literally they are, many people fancy the notion of a droid 'buddy'). Think how great it would be to have a speaking droid with a slang personality and a rare module in him--that's the special pet people would love to have.

I'm satisfied for now. I do not deign to speak for the other Droid Engineers, but as a struggling DE since I started this game in October, know that I am finally happy with my profession. As long as you fix our bugs and give us little packets of content every once in a while, this is one Droid Engineer who will stay in business for a long time to come.

Deciding to add a signature immediately after writing a post which included a psuedo-signature: bad idea.
