I've got a crazy idea, how about a survey droid. You buy from a Droid Engineer and set it to whatever resource you want and it will surveythe currentplanet and find a waypoint toa reasonably high concentration of it?

This idea would needs lots of refinement, but could add greatly to droid engineer business.

my 320m surveying skill works fine......... a sampling droid would work much better than survey droid =).

I think a surveying droid would work well for this game. But, I think those survey droids should work with some kind of power up. What I mean is that we get a specific blueprint to build that would allow that droid to survey but that specific droid would also need to have power ups in order to go find new resources.

I suggest this because I think if you are using a droid to survey for you it should cost you something. Make it somewhat cost prohibitive for people with these droids so they dont squash out the compitiion of the little guys that are running around with their survey devices.

In addition to that it creates repeat business for us DE's when they come back to buy the power ups for thier survey droid.

Suggestion: Make survey droids like the Bounty-Hunter seeker droids - 10 uses, and make them come in flavors (mineral, chem, flora, etc)

You click 'use' in the Inventory, and the droid usage is decremented by one, then the normal survey tool screen comes up. You wait (a while) and then the survey screen is populated with a 320m scan (as if you had survey4)

The advantage to the user is in skill points not spent on Survey, but still getting the big scan. For someone putting the harvesters near their home, or who's trying to pick a spot for a home, it would work fine.

Also - the nice thing about this approach from a Dev standpoint is that it's quick and dirty coding. No need to code the animation of the droid flying around, keepinga new object on the servers, etc. The code for the survey tool is already written, just a call to that routine and they're done. The only hard part is adding the Survey Droid datatype as a creatable object, and adding the schematic (Which should be the same as a seeker droid, but use a survey tool instead of a memory module)
