What kind of factory is needed to produce droids and droid components? Is it the equipment factory?

Can a factory make a droid ? And if there is one that can do so is there anyone on Shadowfire that can sell me one ?

Yes. Equipment factories make droids in 5 unit crates.

That said it is not usually too practical to make droids in a factory beyond Arkyd Probe Droids and Seeker Droids. The reason for this is because the droid has to be -completely- assembled (all armor, modules, and personality chips selected). This will work ok for a few 'bread and butter' droids (surgical droid with Medical 6 and Food/Chem Crafting with Geeky personality) but in my experience nearly everyone has just one or two small changes that make mass producing droids like that impractical.

What the equipment factory is really useful for, in my opinion, is letting you mass produce all the components you need to build a final droid (advanced droid frames, advanced droid brains, droid sensors, manipulator arms, medical modules, etc.) I have a bag with about 15-20 crates of various components. Usually when I need to assemble a droid for someone I can just grab all the assembled components from these stacks and build the droid in just one or two steps, rather than the seven to ten steps it would take if I assembled everything from scratch.

Of course your mileage may vary and mass producing the same droid might work really well for you.

I do the same. Factory made subcomponents then hand craft the final droid. The exception is Seekers and Probes as I sell these in crates and special orders for PAs (10+ droids). It really cuts down your your crafting time when making droids for people in a city.

If we ever get experimentation that does anything I suspect there could be more reasons for factory made droids.

I agree for the most part, but there are several droids that sell well enough to be mass produced.

R2-ADV + Med 6 + F&C station + Item Storage 6 (equivalent)
Surgical-ADV with the same loadout + Worshipful personality
Probot-ADV + full armor + Item Storage 6 (equivalent)

For me, these are the top sellers and they sell in those exact configurations regularly. So when I have the opportunity to do so, making factory runs of those droids is very useful.

I sell the first two for 20k and the last one for 12k on my vendor and try to keep a couple of each stocked at all times.

LOL. I just got a factory, and I'm using it to do what you guys are all talking about - producing parts for droid assembly later. My problem is that I'm so used to crafting them by hand that I always hit "Create Prototype Item" instead of "Create Manufacturing Schematic" at least twice before I manage to make that darned schematic. Old habits die hard, I guess.

I agree that you don't want to make the deed as you do not know what may sell from week to week. What I did was mass produce the chassis, that way all I have to do upon receiving the order is grab the chassis and add the crated service modules and then done.

I'm with the rest of you guys. I have two factories, one or the other of which is almost always making seekers and/or probe droids. In my other factory I either am running M.A. components or using them to make the various modules and subcomponents for my droids.

I still do that too sometimes. LOL

I am assuming you are still a novice DE by reading your sig. You may not want to make droid parts in a factory yet as you won't get the XP for it.
