Thread: DE should make vechs
and heres why:
a droid is a very complex pice of kit. since most of the vechs will be serious pices of electronics then it should stand to reason the only crafter that is able to do do this is the DE. mabye a certain part of the skill tree devoted to it? dunno which. but you can put it into the artisian skill tree i just dont make sence.
I agree.
The difference between a Droid and a Vehicle is actually rather small. The main difference is that a Droid has AI while a Vehicle does not. Put the more basic vehicles low in the Droid tree and as more advanced vehicles are added have them at higher skill levels. This would also give the DE something they can make and sell as they work into the profession.

As much as I want more things to build I'd rather see a Mechanic profession that would handle the vehicles and after the Space Expansion, handle ship construction.
I have thought about this and would like to see vehicles difficult to come by. I would like to see all the elite artisan trees to have a part in vehicle construction. So for instance Architect designing them, Tailors for the interior, Armor smiths for armor plating if needed, and Droid Engineers to build them. This was all the artisans would have to rely on one another and have a venue to sell their crafts. I know this would probably be very difficult but I kind of like the idea of having to track down another artisan to create a vehicle. I don't want to see something like pets where just about everyone has one. Sure after a while we could put some model T's on the market but a group could get together and make avehicle corporation or create a guild for artisans. You could take it a step further and control prices and drive the market.Alright I don't want to get too high up on my soap box but Ijust would like to see more reliance betweenprofessions.Sure you could create another profession to do it all but I think that would be too easy. Space craft could be easily rolled into this. Plus it would make some of these professions a little more attractive for gamers to get into. Just my two cents worth. Please feel free to respond but I think there may be somethingin what I have said.

Where did you get the info that they wouldn't be craftable at first. All the Dev posts I can find state at the very least that the Swoop will be in the Engineering line. The only posts I know of that state they will be only available from NPC's to act like a money sink is player conjecture not Dev stated fact or TC example.
I'd dig up the post, but the forums are slow as hell right now. Its on the dev tracker, I think JustG posted it. He said that they would not be craftable and would not bring in a new crafting profession with the entrance of vehicles (which he also said is coming sooner than we think).
I'm sure most folks would rather have vehicles that can move, carry them and their goods, and actually go more than 30 feet before requiring a recharge. If they gave vehicles to DEs they'd be stationary hunks with no-withdrawal container slots, and would require 30,000 units of liquid petrochem fuel every twenty five seconds (whether active or in your datapad).
