Droids right now sure seem to be the least-useful elite crafting group (well, maybe chefs), and it is insanely unbalanced that CHs are selling beasts for six figures and we have discussions over whether 20k or 10k is too much for our most advanced droid.
Droids are central to the Star Wars universe, and eventually you have to figure the devs will get droids right. Having written commercial software myself I can say it is a very consuming process to roll out the kinds of big changes we've seen. Especially player cities and mounts (I'm guessing vehicles are going to be pretty easy to add after the mounts). When making these big changes sometimes it is easier to tweak stuff that's mostly working (creatures) than to go back and re-engineer something that's mostly not working (droids).
There are a lot of elite professions and they most likely can't all be fixed at once. I wouldn't be surprised if droid engineers become the focus of the next major changes. Hopefully.
Anyway, I'm going to keep on maximizing on what I can do with droid engineering while I wait for things to get better. Bitching doesn't do any good at this point, the issues have got to be well-known by now to the devs.

I will be doing the same, but at the company I work for (yes I do programming as well) if we took 4 months to fixabug, we'd lose allcustomers for that feature, and with them, hundreds of thousandsof dollars. SOE is lucky that DE's are less than 1% of the people playing the game, but that mentality effectively means that this game is great as long as you don't play a quarter of the professions.

Actually, the next major changes are coming to the CH profession. I don't have the link, but TH posted today that the CH skill tree revamp is coming in the next patch. There ya go. DE will probably get another nerf.
