Thread: Resource Attributes/Item Quality Correlation Question
Pardon this somewhat old question from a very old DE (since July). Lots have changed since I crafted my first CDEF Pistol (I started playing BEFORE the Practice Checkbox existed), and at this point things have changed so many times I cannot keep track of what is current and what is old data.
Resource attributes. We're all familiar with them. We talk a lot in the DEnet posts about Cond/OQ and SR/UT (the two most important and frequent pairings in most of the stuff we make). The question is what happens to the formula (CURRENTLY) when you use a resource that does not have one of the attribute requirements.
For example: An item uses two resources, a mineral and a chemical. This item depends on Cond/OQ for resulting product and experimentation for improvement. So you usemineral A which has a Cond/OQ of 800/800 and chemical B which does not have a Cond and only has an OQ of 800. So the question goes: How does the system compute the resulting value? The three logical possibilities I can come up with are:
A) System counts the missing Cond of the second resource as a zero (0) and averages the Cond of 800/0 to a score of 400 resulting in a final average resource attribute value of 400/800. ((800+0)/2) / ((800+800)/2)
B) System doesn't even count the missing attribute against the score, resulting in a final average of 800/800. (800) / ((800+800)/2)
C) System takes the resource attribute score that is present and dupes it for the missing score, resulting in the same final average resource attribute value as (B) as 800/800 . ((800+800)/2) / ((800+800)/2)
In the first few weeksafter launch, I know there was a lot of speculation on how this worked (and they even told us it was more complex than this) but I recall us believing that (A) was what was happening. We believed that complexity notwithstanding, this was basically how it worked. An oversimplification, if you will.
At some point a number of months ago, I (think I) recall (B) as the way it worked at (what was then the) present. Not sure what the deal is currently today. Do we have anyone who has done this experiment (Drashk)? Have we answered this one already? If we haven't, could/should we?
So let me understand this. We think it's (A) but we're actually not sure. Sounds like some testing is in order. And since I brought it up, I think I'll do just that. Ok cool, I just wanted to know if I was reinventing the wheel and we already KNEW this answer. As long as I'm not the only one that's a big foggy on it, then experiments are justified.

From what I understand thischange was on test center, but was pulled before it went live. Until fairly recently I was a master doc running a stim business and I can tell you for sure that this change never went in affecting medical crafting which would use the same system I assume. Can show the math if anyones interested.
As for the reason for pulling this, there are many schematics where the required ingredients cannot possibly have one of the attributes. Changing the system to A at this point would either require a complete overhual on schematics or resources, or else it would result in a "nerf" becuase goods crafted would not be able to hit the high stats previously made.

Just ran a test with a droid part to double check myself that its true across the board, and results came out the same. It is still system B from above, a missing attribute is not counted at all. Note though that if -none- of the resources have that attribute it will be 0. Again if anyone wants to see the math I'll type it up. Any independant verification is more than welcome too ![]()

It still is B. You can verify this quickly by making a crafting tool. Chem doesn't have any conductivity, but it never affects the end result of the product. Same as if you use Ore in the mineral spot.
