Thread: A (possible) new Droid Handler Class?
I just read this on In Live from THin the new roundtable for the week:
Could you drop a hint when we will see the post about the DROID INVASION, please?
Ill be doing it this week. I had to push it off until some of internal discussions were finished. The timetable was changed because the Droid Engineers were very clear in telling me they wanted Droid Engineering and Droid Handling as two seperate professions.
Their argument makes a lot of sense too. A good balance is akin to Bio-Engineers and Creature Handlers; BE's make em and CH's use them. Its really two different playstyles. One is crafting and one is combat/exploration. Adding a class of combat droids to the game has to be similar. Combat droids themselves have to stay level 10 or under for the general population otherwise everyone would rush out and get the better pets. That leaves a wide range of powerful combat droids that needs to be in the game, but to get those droids, players have to spend the time and energy to earn them.
So what we'll have is a Droid Engineer profession and a Droid Handling profession. All players will have access to combat droids up to level 10 and DH's will get a wide range of heavy combat droids to handle.

That's funny... I could have sworn that we were very clear about wanting to be able to use all of the droids we can make. As I recall the issue of a Droid Handler profession was shot down pretty handily at least here on the forums. Not that I really mind, this is one of several possible solutions that is acceptable to me. (Not necessarily preferable, but acceptable.)
What we might be able to infer from this, however, is that the Devs had much more powerful combat droids in their plan for us and finally realized that they cannot add CH-level droids to the current DE profession because it would make us too all-inclusive and powerful. Thus it becomes "very clear" to them that they need a separate profession that is designed to use these powerful droids.
A bright note before everyone panics - as has already been pointed out by people many times, Creature Handlers can tame their own pets in the wild and are therefore reasonably self sufficient. While it is true that the best pets come from Bio Engineers, a Creature Handler can get by quite nicely without ever seeing a BE in his entire career. My guess is that Droid Handlers will be pretty much entirely dependent on Droid Engineers for their droids... so the new combat droids we can make might actually end up being MORE powerful than current CH pets. If the DH profession is more narrow than the CH profession it makes sense that DH would receive some sort of benefit in return.
As a ne wmaster of Droid Engineering, I can say without a doubt, if I can "make" it i want to "use" it. no new classes!
no new Droid Class, just allow everyone to use them!!!

Weaponsmiths can make LLC's but can't use them...
I thought this was agreed upon by the majority that we wanted to use the droids we make, We didn't want another class![]()
it's been said over and over, let the elite combat classes get a certification for a better combat droid. No one wants a droid handler class. Fix the droids we have and give them some usefull fucntions, new combat droids would be nice, but not specifically for a new profession. I don't care if I can't use what I make, big deal, don't know a single weaponsmith that can use a flamethrower.
I've been excited about the "droid invasion" since it was announced, the announcement about the dh class is a huge letdown.

Yeah, while they're at it, they better make a "House-handling" class that will only be able to own houses, and a "Harvester-handler" that will have the sole ability to place and use harvesters.....
