Thread: How did TH get this confused?
I'm reading that TH got the impression that we are pushing very much for a Droid Handler Profession and that's why the droid invasion is delayed.
Now I'm asking how he got the impressions.
As far as I know almost all of the DE's have been screaming no DH. I guess someone or a small group of DE's have been very loud.
Or maybe I'm just missing the point that DE's may want DH (Which I absolutely don't)
I defended TH against badmouthers too. Now I regret it...
TH quote on droids...
"Ill be doing it this week. I had to push it off until some of internal discussions were finished. The timetable was changed because the Droid Engineers were very clear in telling me they wanted Droid Engineering and Droid Handling as two seperate professions.
Their argument makes a lot of sense too. A good balance is akin to Bio-Engineers and Creature Handlers; BE's make em and CH's use them. Its really two different playstyles. One is crafting and one is combat/exploration. Adding a class of combat droids to the game has to be similar. Combat droids themselves have to stay level 10 or under for the general population otherwise everyone would rush out and get the better pets. That leaves a wide range of powerful combat droids that needs to be in the game, but to get those droids, players have to spend the time and energy to earn them.
So what we'll have is a Droid Engineer profession and a Droid Handling profession. All players will have access to combat droids up to level 10 and DH's will get a wide range of heavy combat droids to handle."
What in the HELL was he thinking? And just how is there a good balance between BE's and CH's? They will probably screw this up just like they screwed up the low CL be pets.
Then the DH profession will be added...they will have medium armor 30% resist droids and CH's will still be endlessly hunting rare tameables, going..."**edit**?"
I just can't believe what a blatant lie that first paragraph is. I have seen nothing but hate for a DH profession on this forum, yet TH is happily saying otherwise. Atleast CH makes some sense. DH makes zero sense...
My guess at this point is that the Devs very much want to turn DE into DH. That all their reworking has been to do just that. But, since so many DEs have said they don't want to be a DH class and have pointed out many flaws in the idea, the Devs came up with the idea of separate classes. That would be my guess.
The big problem they will have is coming up with things to fill up 16 boxes of DH skills (plus novice and master) to make a fully fleshed out class. In the end, I think they will realize this and turn DE into DH regardless of what anyone has to say on the matter and regardless of any flaws pointed out.
Unfortunately, they seem to be concentrating of Combat Droids and not too interested in the Utility Droids that are so prevalent in the original 3 movies. It looks like they want to have another Pet Handler class when we have seen the many problems with those classes.
If they do create a DH class, said class would be justified in claiming they should be more powerful than CH. Afterall, DH would be required to buy all their pets. CH can always go tame some for free (difficult for the good ones, but possible). DH would not have that option at all. That leads to the class becoming overpowered too easily. It becomes more and more difficult to balance things.
I think the reality of the situation is that DE will become DE/DH and be underpowered in both. You can't make DH as powerful as CH if DH also has the ability to make it's own pets and more. So, it won't be that powerful. But, you can't have DE able to make the cool Utility droids for sale that many of us would like because it also has DH in there. So, DE will be weak in both the engineering capability and the handling capability and the other classes that were hoping to have cool utility droids will miss out. They could easily design the class so that this is not true, but then we would have balance issues with the other classes.
