wouldn't it make more sence to just give different droid certs to master professions, instead of creating a whole new profession.

If you want to make it seam more like star wars by having more droids, making them only usable by one profesion is not the answer.

instead give:

master pistoleer/rifleman/carbineer so for of combat droid cert.

master commando the exploding moused droid cert.

master bounty hunter an assasin droid cert.

master merchant some form of protocol droid that can be used for advertisement in cities.

this gives you a reason to master a class and allows more people to use more droids.

It makes sense. Unfortunately, I'm coming to believe that this fact alone may disqualify it from consideration.

Taking a well-deserved vacation from his successful Droid Engineering business, Master Rho can be found puttering around the galaxy.

LOL! I'm with you on that Rho.

I agree that it's a good idea. It's simple, and it has the bonus of not rewarding "dabblers."

give master smuggler a storage droid that lets him/her hide contraband, and maybe gives him a bonus to slicing.

J/K........but you know how TH is fond of reading everything backwards. Seems if you want him to act one way you have to emphatically ask for the opposite theses days

A cert system for droids just wont work IMO.

The devs have spent six months restructuring & tweaking the pet/CH/CL systems. A pet is a pet, regardless if it looks like a rock beetle or a droideka. The issue becomes one of game design & balance. The devs werent happy with people having 3k HAM armoured tanks for no skill point investment (a free passport to high level content they called it). They werent happy with players having 10k HAM AR1 75% tanks by taking just 5 skill boxes in CH. A non CH pet nowadays means something with 1-2k ham, 100 dmg and a few low resists if you are lucky.

Any combat droid system must be subject to the same CL scale as CH, easiest way to do this is the introduction of a DH class. This gives the potential for the introduction of high level combat droids. No DH class means no useful combat droids.
