get this post on the development forum as a "suggestion" for droid engineers :

I'm very concerned about how exactly you plan on creating the Droid Master since you have decided that the Droid Engineer will remain only a crafter class.
Mostly I'm hoping that you wont force a class to rely totally on another as would happen if DE remains the only class that can create the droids. It would be like making a Creature Handler only able to tame/train Bio Engineered pets. Since CH can find and tame wild creatures they aren't required to be close friends w/ a BE (yes i know BE pets are better, but its not the ONLY way).
Please let the Droid Master create or acquire their own pets somehow.
As an idea: Possibly shift the DE class to be more of a 'support' crafter? IE. Creating non-combat droids: Medical, Mining, Repair, Crafting, Surveying/scouting (Probe droid) types of droids and possibly adding advanced vehicles (and later the space vehicles once the expansion roles around) explaining that to make such vehicles you need droid assistance.
Doing something like that wouldn't shift the Droid Engineer away from a crafting class, and in my opinion would actually make it a far better one as all classes would look to them for their advanced engineering support. If such a shift were to occur, then the Droid Master could retain the ability to make his own pets without stepping on the Droid Engineers toes.

Does this disgust you as much as it did me? In other words....Please Developers, let the droid engineers rot until the spcae expansion comes out unitl you give them something new to make. The way things have gone, I wouldn't put this type of scenario past the dev crew.
Man I am getting bitter. I need to call it a game day soon.

That's the height of irony there. More like "cut off their toes... and legs"

Sadly I could see something similar to this happening if Droid Handler ever becomes a reality.
Once a new profession is created its only a matter of time before that professions forum takes on a community and a life of its own. At that point they have to look out for themselves and the first order of business will be to make themselves less reliant on Droid Engineers. They'll point to their clones, the CH's and BE's. They'll say it isn't fair that CH's have alternate methods of attaining pets.
Sure the Devs can ignore a profession for a long time, as we've seen, but eventually they'll have to throw them a bone. Then once the door is open, they won't be able to close it.
Droid Handler is just a quick solution to a very complex problem. Long term effects would be very hard to predict, but I can't imagine they'd be good for us.

Sure, I think TH described it as "another mouth to feed" -- DHs would understandably want new pets and DH-related content.
The fact that CHs can tame thier own pets (not as effective as BE pets) is a major reason why DEs should be able to make and use their own lower level combat droids.

From a design point of view, DH as a hybrid combat/craftingprofession does make a lot of sense. It's easy to balance in terms ofcombat effectiveness, it's easy to balance in terms of benefit to other professions, it's easy to balance in terms of its own reliance on other professions, and there's enough potential content there to fill all the trees.
And you know what? We could have been that class.
If it gets created anyway and drives us to extinction, that really will be ironic, won't it?

I saw the initial quoted post, and one-starred it without responding. Not my usual approach - but I didn't want to quote the thing and thus give the devs a higher chance of reading it...
