Droid modules:

Entertainment (music/dance): Created by musician/dancer, lasts for x amount of time, provides either BF/Mind wound healing or dancer/musician buff. 1 use per "charge" - charges created by dancer/musician making a special performance, and adding it into a unit. The unit is stackable with other identical units, for a maximum of 10. These modules have 1/2 the effect of watching a live dancer/musician. "Empty" recording media must be bought from npc vendor, providing a money sink.

Slicing: Smuggler can make a droid module capable of slicing mission terminals. The smuggler uses up 5x the clamps/knives per use in the module (so 1 slice requires 5x the materials), and the droid is then able to slice weapons, armor, terminals if given the appropriate equipment. Module casings must be bought from an npc vendor, providing a money sink.

Medical: Medical type charges up droid with stims - ranged, area, individual, wound-packs - using 2x the number of units they want the droid to be able to have. So a 5 unit droid would use up 10 units of wound packs/stims. Medical "dispersal" units to hold the stims etc. must be bought from NPC vendors to act as a money sink.

All of these would allow money to be taken from the economy, would give other professions stuff to sell for money, and would not be unbalancing.

For offense:

Combat: Combatant class + master artisian work together, spend time/resources making a module for a droid that allows the droid to perform a given special attack. Only 1 kind of attack per module, modules stick in regular slots on droid.

Armor: Works with an armorsmith, buys segments for the droid armor, has the resists the segments would give. Shields can be used as well, but take up 2 module slots.

Weapons: Works with a weaponsmith, buys weapon components from a weaponsmith. Power determined by component quality, damage type determined by NPC vendor purchased item.

Overall: Balance it by damage type, value and specials - higher damage versions eat up condition *hellaciously* fast. No certs - just condition (not HAM - HAM is seperate)decay. Make condition fairly expensive to repair, and take time.

New chassis should allow for multipliers. Droideka chassis = 2x damage multiplier (or allows better weapons/armor/shields, whatever), R2 chassis has 1 weapon spot. Etc.

Would it really be that difficult for SOE to add things like this instead of the Bay of Pigs-like "Droid Invasion"?
