Thread: How do You Think Exploding MSE droids will work?

So how do YOU think the Exploding module will work? To start, let's have a look at what exactly we have been told:

"Exploding Module: This combat abilitywould consume a droid in a fixed damage blast."

This is from the "In Testing" notes for Publish 8. Given this limited amount of information, it may be premeature to try and guess how they will be implimented. But it may be fun to guess. Let me break it down into a few sub-catagories:

The Module: It is my guess that the construction of the module will be much like that of the grenades. Lines of experimentation, materials used and amount of damage will all be similar. I suspect that they will be able to stack for effect, else there would be no reason to put them into anything else but an MSE. On the flip side, an R3 loaded with exploding modules would be rather expensive. Another thing to consider: What kind of socket will this module fit into? If it's a combat module, that will raise the stakes since it will have to be a DZ70 minimum. I'm thinking either that, or it will go in an all new socket that will only be availabel on one or two socket droids to avoid creating a 50 mega-ton R3.

Deployment: Unfourtunatly, I don't see these modules changing the way a particular droid behaves. What I mean is this: For a droid that is going on its last mission, It would be a real inconvienience to have to ready, train, and send after the target. This would all a have to be done before combat is initiated since you can't call a droid once engaged. Also, it would preclude you from actually using a pet or droid to do any fighting since you can only have one out at a time. I would much rather like to see a "generic item" type exploding droid like the seeker or arykd. The 5 Droid Limit may also play a big part of how useable these modules actually are.

The Explosion: So what kind of yield are we talking? I suspect, given the expense of even the cheapest droid, that the explosion would have to be something special. I'm talking bodies flying, and maybe even being destroyed to the point of being un-lootable. Wouldn't it be great if they actually came up with some new death-animations to be used with the exploding droids? Might be worth a few sales just for novelty. Seriously, I would expect the the damage would be "splash" type, and that an single module droid should be able to take out a cluster of Valerians or maybe even Desert Deamons in one shot. This would make it an expecial useful tool for non-combatants to clear out the area around their harvestors.

The Package: Transportability will be a huge issue with these things. Folks that use traps and grenades go through them like candy. They also get them in crates of 25. since all the droids come in crates of 5, it may just be too cumbersome to tote them around. I know folks that have three houses, their safe deposit box, their backpack, the input hopper of 3-4 factories AND their inventory all plump full of stuff. Let's hope for some grace in this department.

So there you have it. My ruminations on the exploding droid engineer.... I mean exploding droid module. Tell me where YOU think it's headed.

Watch them require a ton of resourses so we have to charge like 5k for even a MSE, and then do like 200 damage a pop.

I'm really hoping we'll be able to make exploding MSE droids. I'd even make a couple of protocol droid bombs. I wonder what they'd say just before they blew up?

would be nice if you can have them on follow and on a detonation timer... or remote detonation

but im guessing that only a commando-esque person would be using a high-explosive droid... so a MSE bomb will probably do 2-300 dmg and use as much resources as a darn BLL

Aw Capn' have you not played System Shock 2?

Exploding protocol droids always seem to say something like "Ah, there you are..." before !!!FTOOM!!! and taking your face off

The NannyBots were the worst! They were just plain creepy before taking your head off, especially if you heard a group of them around the corner and had run out of ammo....

All of the advanced MSE' I've factory made (... that sounds just as a odd as I thought it would...) are actually 10/crate. Still not much, but an 100% increase on explosive capacity from what your counting with.

Other than that, I agree on all points. I'm especially curious as to how they will do the whole deployment thing, since I've been thinking about handing the droids to the people I'm grouping with, have them use the befriend command on me, then have ready /tellpet macro's for the different attack commands ('a1', 'a2', 'a3' etc.).

Droid Commander in all but the name...

(though unfortunetely, the whole training things guarantee's that any Droid Commanding probably won't live far past the first engagement...)

Exploding MSE droids are an abomination, the fruits of a fevered mind that is approaching desperation and which (if it can still be called a mind) is well past the legal definition ofcriminally insane.

As if DE isn't already a laughing stock profession.

Sometimes you just have to wonder where they get the herbs from, quite possibly a vending machine in the corner of the office.
