Thread: XP & Surrendering Skills

Hi all.

Just need a bit of info regarding how the skill points & XP work. I will be packing in DE after Pub 8 if it doesn't deliver (can always hope!) but I was wondering, if the Devs ever DO fix DE would I have to grind out the XP pts again or would I just have to free up skill points from wherever I've put them (combat monkey skills probably) & just re-train in DE?

Never done anything other than MA & DE (apart from the obvious novice skills) so not quite sure how the XP system works on surrendering - if I had to grind out DE again I think I'll just pack the game it totally when my current subs run out.

Cheers!

I think that if you surrender skills, you don't lose any XP, and you'll probably have XP over the cap that you're meant to have. But, as soon as you do something with that XP (eg learn a new DE skill) your XP will drop down to the cap for a Novice DE, which I don't think is that great. I think even gaining Droid XP by crafting something will make your XP drop down to whatever cap you're meant to have.

Right so basically a re-grind from 240,000 XP then.

Goodbye SWG in June then!

Yes, once you surrender a skill you also lose all the xp it took you to gain that skill. But as it was stated above you will most likely have more xp saved from continuously crafting droids. But the more skills you surrender the more xp is lost.

you will have to grind it out again if you surrender to many skills in DE.

What I meant was that after surrendering all your skills (assuming you had the max XP for a Master DE), you will still have the max XP that a Master DE can have. But as soon as you try and use this XP (by crafting a droid and getting XP, or learning a DE skill), the game will come up with a message saying that you are over your current max DE experience, and your XP will be bumped back down to the max for a Novice DE.

Am I making sense? Is that how you understood it in the first place?

From there on you will have to grind out all of DE again (I think that's how it works)

You do not lose XP explicitly for surrendering a skill. If you have 240k of droid crafting XP and you give up Master Droid Engineer and all of your level IV skill boxes you will still have 240k of droid crafting XP.

However, if your XP cap drops to lower than the XP you have then you will lose XP. So if you sell off all of your level IV skill boxes and all of your level III skill boxes you will go from 240k of droid crafting XP to 180k of droid crafting XP (or whatever it is that is the cap).

I saw it happen with scout. I had a bunch of un-used experience when I dropped back to novice scout. It still showed me with that experience enoughfor all the second level skills.

I hit the wrong button and harvested one hide, the system spam said I had gotten -100000 exp (don't recall exact number) and my exp total went down to twice a first level box.

I am not sure what happens if you re-train a first level skill, my guess is that it costs you everything except what you can now hold which would be twice the cost of a second level skill box. If I am right, and you don't make another droid part, you can drop it and retain enough experience for 3 boxes. It might prove to be only 2. Everything else you have to regrind.

As I think about it you could be right. I never looked at my XP immediately after dropping skills, but I know that if you don't drop enough skills to lower your cap then you will retain all your XP.

i think the xp you can have is 2x the highest skill. If you drop 3 lines of de, you can easily get 2 back and then regrind the 3rd. But you have to keep one line of DE. (i would recommend blueprints)

Actually, you don't even need to keep the whole line. You can drop the level IV box since the cap will remain the same.
