Sorry to see you go. SOE will realize their mistake with the Player/droid situation eventually. Maybe not while you or I are still alive, but they will.

Within the next 3 publishes - there's going to be significant changes (including new driod chassis).

Unless I totally misread the dev interview.

Didn't they say they were giving us full attention for publish 6 and 7? Chef cut the line and went ahead. So we got pushed to publish 7 and 8. Even then, they are working "combat balance," wookiee armor, vehicle paint, crafting and other stuff that doesn't have a lot to do with us. (Combat balance if there were any type of good combat droids, but it is more of a combat profession balance than combat suppliment balance. Also, crafting, well because we are crafters, but not big huge changes that really affect US much.)

And as I pointed out, the Droid-focused changes to Publish 7 compromised only 27% of their Publish Notes. That, in my opinion, is NOT full attention, nor anywhere near it.

History often has a way of repeating itself.

I'm sorry to have jumped into your forum - for I'm not a DE. I've always had a great interest in you guys and always read what coming up for you. Don't know why - but I read the DE forums more than the CM and Rifleman ones (too hot I guess). I hope from what I've read - I'm right about my interpretation of the interview and look forward to your rekindled businesses.

You make a lot of good points, Bail. I'm sad that you're giving up on DE, but I'm glad you've found other things to do in the game to keep you entertained.

I think this is a key point. Everyone expects more out of droids, and rightly so. However, everyone, which includes DEs and our customers, keep asking for the same things over and over when the devs have already said, "no." We're running in circles.

It makes me think of a romance film (take your pick) where the lead actor spends the entire plot chasing after some hot blonde, only to find at the end of the movie that she wasn't worth chasing after, and that it's really the girl that's been by his side the whole time that he should actually be with.

It's a stretch, but sometimes it feels the same way around this forum. It feels like we all want that blonde (combat droids & modules that give stat bonuses) so badly that we're blind to any other possibilities. I know that we haven't really been offered many (some would say any) possibilities, but humor me.

I guess what I'm saying is that if we're not going to get what we (and everyone else) expects, then maybe we can try to change our expectations. I'm not saying lower the bar, but let's forget about the blonde so we can get the best brunette possible (yeah, that statement won't make anyone mad at me...).

Checking your spelling (and punctuation, too) will ensure that you're making sense to more than two people.

Woot... I always perfered brunettes over blondes anyway.. so I'm with ya

The original poster had a lot of valid points especially the "Players expect droids to be something that the devs simply will NEVER allow them to be...." statement. I've felt that same way for a very long time... since the first CH nerf many moons ago. Although with the way they are going with our profession we will always be a worthless profession, and since its by their design... its gotta be on purpose. Yes we've yelled for months for good droids that give stat bonus and other combat related issues and Yes almost all the other professions have asked for these droids, but as I just said its not in their design plans for us to have this and more than likely never will be in the design... and yes i've heard their excuses too hard, balance balance balance.... to me it reminds me of a bunch of graduate students who didnt pay attention (or were too damn lazy) when they were undergrad students first learning programming.

Well anyway.. enough ranting and raving.... So long Bail_Runningrider, I hope Pistols serve you well

"Players expect droids to be something that the devs simply will NEVER allow them to be...."

Since when did the buisness tell the customers what they want? And to let you know there was at one time a DH that was going to come out. Unfortunately the majority of DE did not want a carbon copy of the bio eng/ch proffs. I bet if you were to take that poll again though you would see different results.

In the end its not just the combat droids that are crap, its everything in droid engineer thats crap.Nothing origional, but low end copies of other items in the game that every de can make equaly. IMO the whole profession could leave and not be missed. As long as Bounty hunters could get thier BH xp another way that is.

Infact here is a quote for the DEVs in this game... HERE IS THE DEFINITION FOR THE DROID ENG PROFESSION YOU MADE, PUT IT ABOVE YOUR COMPUTERS AND BE PROUD.

DROID ENGINEER - Makes droids that are low end unorigional copies of other items in the game, that every master droid engineer in the game can make equally.

Sadly, after 9 months as my guild's Chief Master Droid Engineer, I've dropped the profession lock-stock-and-barrel. I loved (and always will) the companionship of my droids and crafting them for my guildmates...but I've had it with the state of the profession. And the sad truth of the matter is that the only complaint that my guild had was "Where are we going to get Droid Storage Compartments from now? We need vehicle customization kits." That was pretty much all I was good for as far as they were concerned. The only droids I've really ever sold throughout my career as a DE were "pity purchases" and on the first day that the ahem combat droids went live.

But sure enough, not 24 hours after I made the new batch of droid...with high-quality resources, I might add, I was inundated with complaints from customers that their new droids "suck azz" (an actual quote, not an euphamism). Players were taking these R3 units into places like the Geonosian Lab and trying to tank larger animals that their prepatch probots had no problem with before Publish 7 went live. They didn't fare very well at all...some of them leaving that place with their vitality at 90%. I spent a good portion of my online time that night apologizing and giving money back. This is the state that the DE profession has come to:

Players expect droids to be something that the devs simply will NEVER allow them to be.

But still the DE community remains hopeful that the devs will see the err of their ways and somehow breathe new life into the in-game droids. I simply don't see this happening in the near future. I'm just tired of being frustrated with the profession and even having fellow DEs jumping down my throat whenever I've voiced my opinions in the past (I won't mention names here, as it doesn't really matter now).

I've preordered my copy of the Star Wars Galaxies: Space Expansion, and (thus far) the release date still stands at July 22, 2004. I'm simply going to pick up Starship Engineer and make money from a product that every being in the galaxy will want. At least with a freighter, the customer KNOWS what it does and what use it has. In the meantime, I'm simply concentrating on becoming a Master Pistoleer. I've actually started having fun with this game these past few days...something I didn't think was possible during my last days as a DE.

To everyone else who's left...I salute you all and truly hope that droids will someday become more than mobile crafting stations.
